down tube broke inside Roor

My Roor tipped the other day and somehow the downtube cracked down past the frosted glass part.  Now the downtube is stuck with no way of pulling it out, does anyone have any ideas on how to get it out safely?

My buddy is in the same situation...


His sister gave him a decent double perc bong, only thing is the down stem somehow broke off in the hole, and some pieces are in the bottom. So he got a free bong, just needs to somehow get the piece that's stuck out of there so a new down stem can slide into place....

I got it out just now by taking a wire hanger cutting it down and bending a 90 at the end, poked it down in there and just pulled it up.  Had to break the bottom of the diffuser out but it came out

Thin long pliers, try and reach in maybe?  How far in is the piece?  I'm thinking stick the pliers (maybe even chopsticks would work) INSIDE the broken downstem, and apply force outward to hold onto it.  Then slowly pull it out.  May work, but I'd have to see pictures first to get an idea of how bad the situation is.

maaybe warm it up a bit, the heat will contract it some, might help ease it out... maybe a hot water bath?

Heat will expand glass. Pyrex barely fluctuates though, that's why it's used in the lab. It could still work though, heat the area around it.

Yea that's what we were thinking...


But the damn thing is stuck and lodged into place quite nicely...




I know we'll figure it out eventually, we always do...:shrug:

Alternatively you can smash it into small pieces and pull it out bit by bit.  Probably the best bet if you've tried everything else.

I would be careful using pliers, that could crack the glass if you put to much force opening them.  The close hanger thing worked for me
