Choosin' a Career

So it's getting to that time.  How did some of you figure out what to do with your life?  I'm directing this to those who have found their career and are loving it, but any talk is welcome.  I'm just interested to see how you fell upon "your calling".  Was it mostly by chance or pure determination?  How long before did you know this was what you wanted to do?  How old were you when you started said career?  Not looking for any specific career ideas, just curious to hear some stories on people finding their dream jobs.  Of course, no job is perfect, but I'm sure there a few people out there who enjoy going to work.

I kinda have a plan set for my career.

I love sustainability and business, which are the two degrees i have (sustainability is a minor actually)

I plan on joining a business and showing pure commitment to that organization. Then when I have worked there long enough to have support from the organization, I want to create my own job for sustainability. This way its not just "GOING GREEN", its something that stems from the beliefs of the individuals involved.


I know shit doesnt go to plan, but atleast its an idea

well i started out in clown college. i failed out when i couldn't pass a drug test. so i started wrestling alligators in the everglades. one big sum bitch i was fightin one day swallowed me whole. while i wandered around inside him (it took about a week to find my way out his asshole) i wondered what the hell i was doing with my life- it was too dangerous and if this happened again, i might not be so lucky.
so then i joined a jainist motorcycle group and we go around the country hosting midget tossing exhibitions.

I absolutely hate the word 'career' and everything about it. That said, I think I want to be a nutritionist. Actually I want to be a wildlife photographer, but it's not like I can just magically become a National Geographic photographer, so while I'm telling people what to eat and shit (lol) I'm still going to pursue my photography.

Im not in my field yet but one day I was just being really active, riding bmx, playing basketball, went swimming etc.  I was in college for political science and went back to my dorm to read the united states federalist papers and when I got to about page 60 it dawned on me, this shit was too boring andn ot at all what I want for my life.

How can I make money by being active instead?  I'm no professional athlete so that's out of the question... physical education? bingo.  In 2 years I'll have my BA in health and fitness and i'm not sure what exactly I will do with it, but dream job is to be a gym teacher in a university. such a lax life

I didnt find my field until I was ~24.  I always had a inclination towards science, so I took those kinds of classes in community college.  It wasnt until my mid 20s that I was able to narrow it down though.  I guess Im lucky in that it wasnt hard for me to find a field I like.
