Question about directly growin to wood
    #1238439 -

High all

if i use a piece of XXX mycelium to innoculate a jar with sterilized finely cut oak, will the mycelium grow in there? instead of making spawn with rye.

where XXX:

(a) Morchella
(b) Enoki
(c) Shiitake

thanx for your time

Not positive about the others but a liquid myc inoc of Letinus works really well on hardwood plugs.

thanx.

i am not talking about liquid myc though, i ask about 'putting' a piece of myc, as if it was a grain jar

I see like tissue tranfer eh?IMHO culturing it into liquid gives better inoculations but if one were to use several small chunks off an agar plate it should be no different than inoculating grain the same way.Let us know how things go with the strains your working.I am interested in primary woodlovers for permacultue on my land.Thanx WR

in my house at the mountains, thats where the 'greek oak' i got is from, there are very rare but its possible to find black morels. I intent to grow the myc and make enough spawn to plant in my territory there.

All three species would grow. I'm not sure but I think that morels prefer smaller particles.
The reason the grain spawn is usually used is because it provides many inoculation points and mycelium has better chances than competitors (contaminants). But if you put a piece of agar directly on sterile wood it would work, only slower.

How are you prepearing the wood chips?Pressure cooker?
I did a tester a while back were i boiled the wood chips for 1 hour
then put it into jars and steamed for 1 hour.

All jars are still clean but i think boiling may leach the
goodness out a bit to much.

/i gota get a pc

Try to increase sterilization time & use more peroxide.
