Hookah, Anyone?

I was just cleaning and got together a few bags of hookah tobacco I had in a drawer which got me wondering in any other Shroomerites like to kick back and enjoy a nice bowl every once and a while?

I got a ~28" Egyptian with a blue glass vase I got for my birth day a few years back and a few different bags of shisha and it was a big 'hobby' of mine for a while. Trying different brands and flavors, experimenting with different bowl packing methods, charcoal management, etc. All in pursuit of the thickest, fluffiest, most flavorful clouds to enjoy.

I've had friends try and convince me to smoke weed out of it but the mechanics of it kind of makes it a waste of weed in my experience, but hash smokes out of them beautifully. I've used cheap plastic tubing when experimenting with it though because I don't want to fuck up my hose with MJ resin (it comes out of the pipe and vase pretty easily with a hot water/ammonia soak and a little elbow grease). But the main question I'm asking pertains to tobacco.

My favorite brand is American made, in San Francisco I believe, called 'Tangiers' tobacco. It's A LOT differently from traditional Middle Eastern made hookah tobaccos but once you get the method right it smokes like a dream. Makes thick opaque clouds that eclipse your entire head and taste like fucking candy with a nicotine buzz, to boot. My favorites from them so far have been passion fruit, kashmir peach, melon blend, and blueberry (awesome mixed with a little mint flavor).

A nice glass of whiskey, a well-packed bowl of tobacco, and a movie in the evening :thumbup:. Great way to chill out after a late supper.

Anyone else with me?

Yeah, I like it with a drink as a kind of 'appetizer' to the MJ if I'm looking to 'get crunk', as the kids say. But if I'm already blazed off my behind that's niiice, too. Though depending on how high I am I'm most likely too lazy to put the thing together and get it going:rolleyes:

Definitely like hookah. I don't let anyone smoke pot in mine.

I have a small glass base and a small acrylic base. I guess I could let people use the acrylic one for pot I rarely use it.

I've had bad luck with Tangiers. I don't know if this is one of the places it doesn't smoke well in (I don't think it is) but I just couldn't learn to pack a good bowl with it. I use Al-Fakhir with Coco Noir coals. I love rose most. Classic fruits with either mint or vanilla is always nice as well.

My buddies got into the whole huka scene about 6 years ago. I dont know why it caught on, and never will. Before that I had an iranian friend that used to go visit his dad in kuwait when we were like 14. We smoked all sorts of weed outa that thing. The tubes would only last a few weeks, but it was still fun. It made us feel intelligent.

I got nice one as a gift a few years back, still havent used it.  How do you light your charcoal? That part was intimidating.

Make a tinfoil hat for it!  Light it, then put the tinfoil over it and pull.  It forces the air to pull all around the coal and lights it super fast.  It's sweet!

Yes, regular lighter works.  Use the tinfoil hat method, you will be amazed how fast your coal is roarin'!

I like using a gas stove burner to light charcoal, leaving quick-lights on the heat for about 30 seconds or non-QLs for a couple of minutes. At the moment all I have are the cheap silver-painted Chinese knock-offs, I gotta let them sit on the stove grate for a couple of minutes after I shut the flame of so the paint burns off, then they work just fine.

Tangiers is kind of tricky but IMO it's well worth the effort. You have to let the bag sit open where you plan on smoking it for a couple of hours to 'acclimate' and come to it's full flavor (you can tell by the smell, if it has any weird liquid smoke/beef jerkey smell it has to sit longer) and when you pack a bowl don't break it up and sprinkle it in the bowl and lightly pack it like most brands. Just stir it and leave it clumpy and take some big pinches until the bowl's got a heaping pile in it and then you just cover it with a taut piece of foil and let that smush it down and even it out (it'll be touching the foil). And with Tangiers less heat on top and tepid/slightly cool water down below is best, too many coals or water that's too cold will make it harsh. I find the hardest thing about getting Tangiers to smoke it's best was untraining my mind from principals learned from getting other brands to smoke good, Tangiers pretty much breaks all the rules.

I can't do the rose flavored tobacco, it feels like I'm smoking the inside of some old lady's handbag. But jasmine on the other hand is awesome, I've smoked it alone and mixed with pomegranate and with blackberry (all Layalina) and they all came out awesome. Especially blackberry/jasmine.:thumbup:

I usually mix the milk with water otherwise it bubbles too much into the hose and shit.

my ex got me a piece of shit chinese one and the aluminum snapped while cleaning it so yesterday for $10 dollars i converted it into this and it works like a charm though it's bulkier than it's original 'travel size' counterpart. The lid still wreaks of pickles though :lol:. Could anyone recommend some nice pieces that will last through frequent use and through cleanings without breaking my budget?

Social Smoke Hookahs makes some nice traditional models. Mya Saray makes some nice little affordable models, some with acrylic bases that are pretty much indestructible. I've heard some good things about their QT model. Just don't go too small or cheap or it'll probably smoke like shit.
