Eating Puffballs

I work at a park in the summer...right off of lake Ontario. Around mid september, there is one very secluded area where there are literally thousands of puffballs. It's quite a sight to see...most of them range in size from that of a softball to big volleyball sized ones. Anyway, I'd like some input as to whether these are good to eat. I know they're safe, but are they worth picking and cooking?

Yeah there nice just slice them into thick chunks and fry them in oil or butter.Better in butter.If there nice and light coloured in side there good to eat if there darker avoid them.

The park is in Burlington, Ontario...and it looks more like an army of snowmen that were hit with a grenade :smile:

I know Dundas very well. I used to live in Flamborough...literally 2 minutes from Main St.

They're OK if the inside is still white.

Just make sure they are not a poisonous species. There are a few species that will wreak havok on your gastrointestinal track if you eat them. If you are going to eat them, get them before they start producing spores.
