There is very little information about this. But I have just recently placed bits of the white inner tissue of a giant puffball on potato dextrose agar and it is growing. I have heard of no successful cultivation reports. Apparently growing the mycelium from clones is not a problem. Spores are supposedly hard to germinate.

I found several very large puffballs growing nera my weilii patch. Im gonna try to do some clones, if you'd like to trade for a cutlture PM me :smile:

Puffballs aren't that much of a mystery. Heck, I even know people who sell puffbal grow kits!

I have seen only one outdoor puffball grow kit and it isn't guaranteed. Just a mass of spawn, plant outside and cross your fingers. I meant to say that I haven't seen any reports of laboratory grown giant puffballs.

i know little about the giant puffball. what type o conditions does it grow in? cold i'm guessing, is it a fall fruiter?

I'm originally from wisconsin and we had a few of these GIANT puffballs. I remember frisbee disking and on several ocasions finding volleyball sized puffballs! There are enough spores within one of these sized balls to innoculate the entire planet...
