need help with english paper

i'm having trouble coming up with a good synonym for high.

the context is: could be construed as the fanciful expectation of the high to come which a drug may hold in her mind.

couldn't find anything satisfactory in the thesaurus.

any suggestions?

Constructive criticism-
Unless this is for an abstract writing class,
you should be more focused on fixing the grammar of that sentence than finding a synonym for high.
Back to the topic, use the phrase elevated awareness

edit: why is the drug a girl? why does the drug have a mind?

well the full sentence is:

The numerous descriptions of fruit and the call to “come buy, come buy” could easily be construed as fanciful expectations of the euphoria to come which a drug may hold in the addicts mind, if not a more obvious outright sales pitch of a dealer.

the essay is an analysis of "Goblin Market" by Christina Rossetti in which i'm examining the theme of addiction. thanks again for the input. i'm about to leave for school right now to hand it in though so feel free to comment but it is no longer imperative.

That sentence structure is pretty damned confusing.  I don't even really know what you're trying to say with the 'which a drug may hold in the addict's mind'.  That just seems like a completely unnecessary addition of words.

That could be the hardest sentence to read/understand I have read in  a long while. And I've been reading a lot of Hindu folktales and religious texts lately.

Your sentence structure, and verb choice,  is all fucked up.... the drug (inanimate object)  holds expectations in her mind??? I dig your point BUT your paper shouldn't be harder to interpret than the poems themselves.

Unless Yoda is teaching your class you might want to check that.

That sentence makes sense to me, but I'm one of those people that like to pile shit up in a sentence. Sometimes it gets confusing for people and I have to chop it up a little bit. :shrug:

ya i read a lot of philosophy and i suppose i've picked up that kind of confusing style of writing. thats not even the hardest one to understand either. as long as one or two of you got it, i think my prof will understand.

the only 'problem' with the sentence is that the theme changes (at least) 4 times throughout it. ie the subject matter shifts to where you are talking about four separate themes in 1 sentence. and to the reader who likes logic and reason, your sentence makes little to no sense. the minds who favor the abstract more, will tend to like your sentence better. nothing wrong with that.
