Stapleton Dentist Receives Death Threat After Blocking Medical Pot Dispensary
February 19, 2010 - thedenverchannel.com

A Stapleton dentist received a death threat the day she obtained a court injunction blocking a medical marijuana dispensary from opening in her building, TheDenverChannel.com has learned.

"You fuckin' stupid bitch," someone who called Dr. Kristin Robbins' cell phone said. "I will kill you. I will kill you," according a Denver police request for a search warrant affidavit. The caller then hung up.

The caller used a "garbled computer-muffled voice" and police want the warrant to obtain phone provider records in an attempt to identify the "blocked number" of the caller.

Robbins, who is president of the building owners association, declined to comment on the threat Friday.

There was public outrage in December when people learned that 5280 Wellness LLC planned to open the pot dispensary in a storefront that had been home to a family-oriented coffee shop called Perk & Play.

Residents criticized the pot dispensary's plan to open in the three-story office building at 2373 Central Park Boulevard, in part because it was near the Denver School of Science and Technology, a charter high school.

Building property owners were especially worried about the impact of the dispensary on dental and orthodontist offices serving children, according to their lawsuit seeking to block the dispensary's opening in Denver District Court.

"Use of Unit 103 as a medical marijuana dispensary is dangerously incompatible with the other professional practices and retail and service businesses being conducted by association members," the owners group argued in court papers.

Members of the Central Park Professional Condominium Association argued that the dispensary would violate the group's covenants and restrictions prohibiting office space owners or their guests from doing anything that violates the law or other government regulations.

While Colorado voters approved a state Constitution amendment in 2000 legalizing the use of medical marijuana by patients who have a doctor's approval, the drug remains an illegal substance under federal law.

The injunction approved by a Denver judge took effect Jan. 26. Robbins received the threatening call that night, the warrant affidavit said.

It's never a good idea to threaten to kill someone.

There is nothing in the story that indicates the threat has any connection to the injuction. It could have, but it could have come from a disgruntled patient or aquaintance also. Hell, she could have made the call herself to cast a bad light on MMJ supporters. That's been known to happen.

That whole 'children' argument is so old and lame. It doesn't even make any sense anyway, more so in this situation. Dentists are known for handing out scripts for Vicodin and OxyContin to patients for pain after a procedure, as they should.

So maybe dentists should stop using novacaine before an extraction. That would send a clear message to children.

seriously, fuck the children.  let them be their parents' burden instead of the rest of society's.

If we care about the children so much, why are we digging them deeper into debt?

I also call "false flag" on this one. Death threats don't come from stoners.

None of the things listed would stop a store that sells alcohol in that building, nor a pharmacy - in fact I almost guarantee there IS a pharmacy in a building that houses doctors, there usually is.  So why no dispensary?  Makes zero sense to me.

This is a true quote though. Legal [medical] marijuana is dangerously incompatible with the other professional practices because they will lose business and money if this happens!

You're right on that one.  They are more likely to come from crackheads.

What about the alternative.  The new dispensary may bring new customers to offset a client swing if one might happen.  Maybe someone stops by the dentist before or after they go to the dispensary.

Maybe I'm reaching.

honestly I think if they would have put one in there other businesses would get more people coming in and checking out the other stores, especially a coffee shop that sells pastries(a lot of hungry stoners), but whatever its her lose.
