Creating dwarfs

I want to try and create dwarf varieties of Papaver somniferum, Papaver paeoniflorum, and Papaver laciniatum (although they're pretty much Somniferums). I have been trying to find books or reports online with information on how to create a dwarf plant varieties but haven't had much luck. I know the very basics of genetics but this might require more information then what I remember from bio class.:tongue:

Another little goal of mine is to work on creating a consistent pansy color that would be a combination of the Moulin Rouge ruffles, with Tigereye stripes. This would also require me reading up on plant genetics.

Does anyone here know of any particular books I should read so I can make my dreams possible?

It is difficult to create dwarfs genetically. Many plants can be dwarfed by training them. This is difficult with annuals, such as poppies, as they will die before they can be trained to dwarf. This dwarfing is not passed on to their progeny, either. You need laboratory equipment to even attempt to genetically dwarf a plant.

Thanks for the response. I know there is a dwarf danish flag poppy so I guess I'll just experiment with cross pollinating that with the plant that has the characteristics I want to have passed on.
