why my ip always changes address under ubuntu.

Okay so heres the deal. I'm running apache on my machine and just starting out to host websites now and my IP keeps changing. It doesn't change much, it changes like the last three digits. it does it from time to time. And now I found out it changes without even restarting my computer or powering down my router. the numbers are something like inet addr:192.168.1.104 right now. But this will change to 192.168.1.100 or 101, 102,103, etc...

Now I'm hooked up to a router that's hooked up to other computers. What is changing my ip?? And can I prevent this? I would think this would be a common issue because a lot of places are hooked up to routers and running apache I would think. Does anyone understand what I'm saying?

Oh and the problem  is when I foward my ip address on my router on a specific port I can only choose one ip address so it doesn't allow me to foward a range of ips... So my website keeps going down and I'll never get it on google.

ok my router is wrt54gl. I think I got this one solved. Its a firmware issue.

DD-WRT:

(when their wiki SQL server recovers from an apparent trashout).

OpenWRT:
http://martybugs.net/wireless/openwrt/dnsmasq.cgi

both look like routes I might have to take.

i use dd-wrt, and its great.

The reason you are getting a new ip is because for some reason your router is releasing the one you have and giving you a new one, i don't know if you 'lease' on it is set short or what.

Regardless, you can fix it with the normal firmware by simply setting your pc up on static IP and not using the DHCP...while DHCP makes it easy since it automatically dishes out connections to new computers and allows non-computer savvy people to setup a network, its a pain in the ass for things like you are doing...if it were me, i would install dd-wrt, set up all wired computers on static IP, and let DHCP dish out the IP's for the wireless...thats how mine is setup...

yeah man. use a static ip and youll be fine.

I think your problem resides in /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf

You'll probably have to uncomment the "listen_address" line and put in some values.

Then type "service vsftpd restart" to restart.

But that is for fedora, so I don't know, I'd look here.

P.S. Thanks for convincing me to do my homework finally.
