the pursuit of knowledge. I am pretty excited about some of the ideas I have and being able to implement them through my own studying and research and ultimately being able to start my own business

Yeah, I want to say the pursuit of knowledge but what if ignorance is actually bliss and/or the smartest option is to pursue sheer hedonistic pleasure?

the same results come to each the same way... just one way is a different path then the other.

this is just my opinion, of course.

The pursuit of pleasure has made me unhappy more than anything.. That is, hedonistic drug abuse :yesnod:.

The highest points in my life have been during the pursuit of knowledge, in which happiness and therefore pleasure precipitated.

Abuse, I can see, but wouldn't the most optimal pursuit of pleasure incorporate moderation?

Moderation only ever occurs whilst I have something else to preoccupy myself with, i.e. the pursuit of knowledge.

In the pursuit of pleasure I've stayed awake for 3-4days at a time trying to get that first high back .

two different stories.

as i said, they both ahve the same results. you are still living for only pleasure if only to preoccupy yourself with the pursuit of knowledge.

knowledge, by a long shot. to me, nothing is more important in the universe than understanding it better.

The concepts of pleasure, knowledge, and happiness are blending into each other uneasily here.  Which is better; a long life filled with the mild pleasure of learning or a short life filled with the most intense euphoria you've ever experienced?

Who lives longer? the man who takes heroin for two years and dies, or a man who lives on roast beef, water and potatoes 'till 95? One passes his 24 months in eternity. All the years of the beefeater are lived only in time.

but sometimes i feel like pleasure is ultimately important. because no matter how much knowledge we gain, we still have no idea if it's truly valid or important in this world. pleasure is food for the soul. seeking comfort. where you feel at home, at peace with the universe.

I would say that knowledge and pleasure aren't necessarily exclusionary things.. for knowledge can bring pleasure and pleasure knowledge.
Certainly, I would say that what brings me the most happiness overall, is a combination of many things and is not limited to any one phenomena.
But the knowledge that I am a spiritual being having a human experience, has brought me many joys.
And the knowledge that my thoughts control my reality, has brought much pleasure in the form of an everlasting inner happiness and contentment with what is.
While the pursuit of Earthly pleasures... while great at the time, has not lead to any sustainable happiness that I can observe.
I would say for the full human experience, one must taste from many dishes..
to experiment.. to experience the full spectrum and ride the rollercoaster that is the human experience.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with glorification of the flesh, and hedonism in it's basic form. It can be devastating taken to major extremes though.
The physical life we have chosen to experience is meant to be enjoyed.. along with all the sorrows and harrowing lows.
For without one, the other would cease to exist. They are one in the same.
I would say the most fulfilling of inner happiness, comes from an infinite knowledge of oneness with creation and all-that-is.
But one could interpret that to be a pursuit of pleasure as well, perhaps one person's knowledge is anothers pleasure?

If by pursuit of knowledge you mean wisdom, then that ultimately leads to more pleasure because we are better able to understand and enjoy the experience of our conscious existence. So they kinda go together.

I see it like this... I'm God. Everyone/thing else is God too. Some people just forgot, really bad.
Infinite different aspects of consciousness experiencing itself from every direction and dimension at once simultaneously..
It's a pretty goddamn ingenious system if you really think about it. The stuff "Really Trippy Shit" is made from.
It's pretty funny when you get a bunch of gods together all clashing and/or harmonizing energies.
Knowledge and Pleasure all at once?! In the same package.. sign me up!
