Just an update on the dry weight and some new pics.

I was blown away... by far the biggest crop ever for me and in one month with almost no effort.

Final dry weight..... 178.5g  just over 6 Oz.:eek:  :dancer:

And some pics of them all dried and piled high. The pics don't really do them justice. That is a lid to a 12" pizza tray that they are in. Just to give you a frame of reference.



Once again thank you to everyone who has ever posted a question and to everyone who provided an answer. The information on this forum is invaluable.

I wonder how much it would weigh if you cleaned off all the substrate.

Lol, just givin' you shit. I like cleaning them before I dry them otherwise it is such a pain to get those little bits of verm and shit off. After feeling the love of the monotub, I'm considering cutting the bottoms off for now on, and throwing them away. :cool:

Doesn't it break your heart to pull apart those clusters? :crying:

Damn dude nice grow. I can't wait to start a monotub this summer. So that 178 grams was just from the first flush? Or is it already done?

I'm pretty sure he's only harvested the first flush. My recent monotub has been pretty bogus because I screwed it up a bit, and it still gave me 5oz on the first flush.

Years ago I used to case WBS with plain verm in turkey trays, lol. The mushrooms growing now are about 10 times bigger.

Man, I just spend an hour cleaning substrate and brushing it off with a hard bristled paint brush. I was actually going to ask for feedback on whether I should try to clean before or after drying. I found it not so bad after it dried it just crumbles right off. I hand cleaned each an every little shroom :smile: And yes, Breaking up the clusters was a sad moment but it had to be done.

That was the first flush. Second flush might not even happen. I kinda man handled the sub to get the first flush harvested so it was pretty tore up. I also didn't dunk or rehydrate it. So I figured it would contam or dry up before anything else happened. However the humidity is staying up. I did give it a quick spray with H2O2 to reduce the chance of contams.

There are a few pins at this point but I don't have high hopes for it. I've got 12 more quarts of spawn, approx. 50% colonized that I'll be tossing into 2 more tubs within a few weeks so I'm not too concerned. It was my first tub and consider it a learning experience. And after this I think I have a lifetime supply of little fungi.

Thanks, and I wonder the same thing now. But I think they were a good stepping stone.

What I do if my sub gets torn up after the first flush is dunk then add a thin casing layer, seems to help even things out, and with the dunk and case I usually get about the same amount on the second flush as the first so it really helps. I dont do anything special for the later flushes just let them do there thing don't really need to with successful first and second flushes.:wink:

I thought it was generally a bad idea to case after the first flush? I might give it a try on one of my next tubs to see how it turns out.

When you case late into the grow, you'll notice everything stops while the myc colonizes the new casing (as long as the casing is moist). So far I don't have enough experience to know whether it's a problem or not.

Dunking and re-wetting my casing causes all my pins to abort, so I'd only do it if the sub didn't have any pins left.

I case when pins are already formed I actually shoot for it(when I do case but not very often anymore), I wouldn't dunk if there are pins forming but dunking between flushes is fine even if you have pins or aborts you haven't removed, any pins still on the substrate that haven't aborted already will most certainly abort during or soon after dunking but the outcome of the next flush is well worth loosing a few pins. Yeah, I'm a big fan of fahtster techniques. I think late casing is a cool idea, but only right when primoridia form, or if the pins are already in rapid growth. Pins that are "waiting" seem to really hate getting wet.

I also like how he gives his tubs light straight away, I give mine a few days(like 3) unless it's PE then I give it to them straight away. It really seems to work well I've tried it this way maybe a dozen times with great results.

I had mine covered in the dark for about 2 weeks during colonization. Since I have nothing to compare it to I don't know if giving light right away would have been better or not. I'll be doing 2 tubs simultaneously next time so maybe I'll cover one and not the other and see what happens. There seems to be a lot of controversy on here over the pros and cons of cover vs. give light right away.

You said it best, I've done 3 monotub grows and they always turn out great. As long as you pay attention to the little details, your set. And their always super productive, I had to go buy another dehydrator after my first project started pinning, I knew one wasn't going to be enough!

Yup thats why I never recommend doing cakes. Tubs are easier to do too!
