Yeah, same over here. I'm a bit of a list freak, and my top ten albums of all time has psytrance, prog rock and metal. I used to solely listen to metal, but I feel much the better person after having diversified my tastes.

Metal, especially avant-garde or progressive (so long as it doesn't fit a Dream Theater-type stereotype), is my favourite genre of music overall, though.

Speaking of sub-genres, I really don't know what bands to post here as sub-genres haven't really been specified... but seeing as most of the metal here seems to be on the extreme side of things, I give you a band for tailored for the small percentage of people who enjoy death metal whilst high (admittedly this isn't me, but the music's awesome when sober too so I don't care). Drifting from the extreme metal, I recently found a stoner metal band (the accessible type) called Spirit Caravan. Bloody awesome. I recommend everyone tries them. I have Jug Fulla Sun.

I just heard this band today but apparently they've been around a good 8-10 years.  they have between 8 and 40 members, depending on the song and/or album...
they're kinda proggy post-metal or something of that ilk, but it's pretty killer stuff.
