Wow, epic thread necro.

...but surprisingly on topic since I'm seeing Sherlock Holmes tonight.  Apparently there is no mention whatsoever of Holmes' drug use in the movie though... :sad:

are his novels really good?  i've never picked one up.

I enjoyed them; I mean, they're written in an old-fashioned literary style so I'd recommend skipping them if you're more into fast-paced action, but Doyle was a good writer for sure.

BTW an IV drip of cocaine right now would be :awebig:

Actually he does do a ceremony bit that give him  hallucinations its like wtf.

Of course, I snorted 10 mg of 2c-e right before I saw the movie so I might not be the best judge of what was going on.

Actually there is. There's one see where Holmes trapped a bunch of flies in the vial and was playing different violin notes to get them to swirl in opposite directions.

Watson picks up a vial on the desk and says "you do realize what you just drank is used for eye surgery".

That's Cocaine my friend. While it's different from him injecting cocaine and morphine like the books, it's understandable since they wanted to keep it PG-13.

Just saw it and you're right... guess I was misinformed.  I thought Downey was great for the part but the plot was seriously terrible IMO.

I didn't find the plot to be too bad. It was definitely a bit rushed in the end. My biggest issue was that Guy Ritchie probably wasn't the best director for the job. He made some of my favorite movies, but his artistic "flair" is not really in line with what it should have been.

Although it style wise it was toned way down from movies like Snatch and Lock, Stock.

Very very good. They have sophisticated plots and rely on good old fashioned action, but are riveting none the less.

I just read part of the 3 part anthology of sherlock holmes this summer and i literally couldn't put it down.
