Cleaning out my sherlock for the first time in a couple of years...

Haven't smoked out of this thing in a good long while. I soaked it in isopropyl alcohol last night in a big bowl and it did a good job of breaking down a lot of the resin but there are still some visible chunks in the thinnest part of the curve of the sherlock. I've heard that if you mix salt into the isopropyl alcohol it works as a natural abrasive and I do have more alcohol to use.
How do you do this? Do you fill a small ziploc bag with alcohol and salt, and shake the pipe around in there? Or what?

It's harder to clean a piece than a bong with salt, but that's the general idea.
Swish alcohol and sea salt all throughout the pipe.
I would just get a couple pipe cleaners with the abrasive metal coming out the sides (all the way up the length of the pipe cleaner). It's much easier.
In fact, now that you soaked it overnight, you should be able to stick any number of things down there to scrape it clean - metal coat hangers, long q-tips, etc.

I cleaned my pipes like this yesterday. Just pour the salt in the carb or mouthpiece. Then pour in the alcohol. then cover all the holes and shake.

Yah, I just cleaned mine the other day using this method.
Kosher Salt + Iso Alcohol + Pipe cleaners for the nasty bits.
Easy as pie.
The first hits afterwords are so good.

That is exactly what I do and it works great. And couple of pipecleaners will help getting out the last couple of nasties that just can't be swished out.

For small ass pipes, we use sugar or regular salt... smaller crystals do better on smaller pipes.

There's just one little piece in there that I can't get at from either end of the pipe with the pipe cleaner. (Woah, weird deja vu thing happened when I was typing that. Odd. I think I dreamed this thread a couple of weeks ago.)

Squirt some shampoo or conditioner in, let it sit for a minute or two, then blast the shit with hot water.

I always get Isopropyl Alcohol and pour enough to cover the pipe in a ziplock bag and then I add a tablespoon of salt and shake around for about 20 minutes, works everytime! Just becareful when you are getting the alcohol and salt out with water that you don't drop it into your sink and shatter it. Happened to me slippery son of a bitch!
