The Butterfly Milkweed has some interesting homeopathic qualities to it. It is also known as the Pleurisy root as it is used to treat lung membrane problems.

Remedies For:

Diaphoretic, expectorant, anti-spasmodic, carminative, anti-inflammatory.

Pleurisy Root is effective against respiratory infections where it reduces inflammations and assists expectoration. It can be used in the treatment of bronchitis and other chest conditions. Highly valued in the treatment of pleurisy and pneumonia. Also used for influenza.

Interesting, thanks Karode... I simply got it because it is also the host plant for the Monarch Butterfly, which I believe are native to California... The person who originally gave me the seeds was going door to door for an Eagle scout project where he was trying to save the Monarch Butterfly, apparently they are endangered or threatened.

Monarchs are nomadic and make long distance travels so I dunno if you could call them "native" but they certainly do pass through.

We've had a few show up on ours this year.

Ha! Interesting you mention the Monarch Butterfly. We have them in New Zealand too. I actually think they migrate from somewhere over your ways, although I'm not 100% on that.

Anyway we do a similar thing by planting a plant called the Swan Plant, Asclepias fruticosa and they lay their eggs on the leaves, these hatch and the caterpillars nom nom the shit out of the Swan plant until it is time to form a Chrysalis. Fun times! :sun:

Awesome.... Yeah, it's so interesting how so many insects in this world have a certain "host plant" that they will only mate, eat, lay cocoons or eggs on, and without that plant, the insect just disappears as well... Complete co-dependence is involved in a lot of cases as some of these insects even have symbiotic relationships with the plant as well. Gotta love nature, it's a very simple yet very intricate plan...

That Calea is awesome! Great work. I was thinking about working with Calea but I've never found a reliable source to corroborate the supposed dream recall power of the smoked leaves and tea.

Do you have much experience with it?

I've tried C. zac. a few times over the last couple of decades, and unfortunately I can't say that I noticed much effects at all. Still, a nice plant to grow.

So the monarch just floats on by looking for your plant? You think they're going to cross your path and see them? I reckon there'd have to be some already in the area for the butterflies to be in the vicinity in the first place. Right? I have no idea how much distance they travel looking for caleas

P.S. - Mallacht, I got a sweet butterfly picture to show you
