You know how to increase crop yields by 50%? Does that go for grains? vegetables? mushroom?
Are you thinking of worm castings? haha Worm castings gave me giant tomatoes and healthy plants.

Good for you on the herb study man. I'm right there with you. I just bought some calendula, lavender, and burdock root today. However I hope to be growing enough this year where I can save up my own.
Wild plants around me that are super beneficial are dandelion, pokeberry, wild garlic, nettles, clover, sassafras, golden root, plantain, lambs quarters, red clover, yarrow, ah forget it too many to list haha. I think there is a Ganoderma species growing natively too.
Dandelion and Nettles are super nutritious and medicinal. Remember that people. Dandelions are calling out to us!
I hope to have bees here in the spring; 2 hives to start. Do you know anything about swarms. My friend was telling me about how swarms can come and beekeepers will be giving away bees because they have too many or something like that...

@pold
pleasurable slavery can turn into agonizing slavery very fast...then your SOL.

pfxtc: Send out the intention and it will happen, I speak from experience. In a matter of 1 year I've met amazing people! Some would call it coincidence but I beg to differ. Research doesn't hurt either :cool:

Yeah, I plan on going on week long "camping" trips in a couple of years when I'm a little richer, as of right now though I have no experience. Guess I need to buy some equipment, and maybe a few books. I've heard the best "research" is to just get down and dirty.

I'm pretty educated on human physiology as far as non college grads are concerned. Have a fairly in-depth understanding of the energy system and natural treatments. acupressure/herbal remedies etc. Can build a fire like no ones business and keep it going forever. Can build a shelter with minimal tools. Put me in the wilderness with the right supplies and I'm fine, it's normal society I struggle with. But for now I'm dependent on the concrete culture, I need some land. It all pretty much starts from growing your own food.

Vermiculture is part of it. Forgot to mention I have a worm bin with red wrigglers. Anyway, just having bees increases yields combined with worm compost and adding biochar to the soil. The idea originates from the discovery of centuries old terra preta with lush forests growing where they shouldn't be able to.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_preta

Seems the charcoal bits retain moisture more than normal soil and allow for growth of microflora that supports plant life. Not sure whether this would help with shrooms but definitely for veggies and plants grown on normal soil. I'm going to do some experiments next year on it but I"m already convinced having seen photo comparisons. Basically I wanted to be able to improve the soil if fertilizers became unavailable or in case of drought.

pfxtc: I would agree that experience is the best form of research. Get a field guide and/or another person and go exploring. That's how I've gained my mushroom knowledge. plus plenty of reading in my spare time and of course the Shroomery.
Which is why I hope to start some forum of primitive skills where we can learn and share with each other because sometimes the online world is more accessible than like minded folks around the area.

Shroomism: I love studying my mind and energy and it scares me some times but I think that one of the most important part of suvival and great living. Like I said to pold, gratitude is a huge part of living out of a corporate system and being happy.

zorbman: An ol' farmer friend of mine who has helped educate me plenty is doing a lot of charcoal experimentation. I posted pictures earlier this year about a HUGE cut-in-half oil tank he gave me for burning and creating charcoal. It's not needed, but kind of convenient I guess.
I would agree and testify that healthy soil is important for healthy plants and life. I'm going to study at school and get a degree (so I can get work in this system) in permaculture type studies. Mushroom/plant symbiosis intrigues me. But it doesn't stop there bees, birds, and worms....gotta love 'em. I would
