Is the black on the top of the cap? I posted about the a while ago. I don't get why they grow the spores on top. I thought that the spores grew in the gills only.

The spores do form in the gills. When you see spores ontop of the cap, its because there is a taller mushroom dropping spores on it.

vts1134, your an idiot. How about taller shrooms and maybe some spores floated around from slight air currents and were depostied on top. Dont just say "thats not true man". When i use to use a ultransonic, i got spores everywhere. I would find them on the walls of my room. A purple haze. Be more specific next time

Mycelium5150, your an idiot for saying that. Have any of use seen all the bizzare things that mushrooms do. I wrote a post a while back on this board about the exact same subject and I got one reply. I have seen with my own eyes the tallest largest shroom in the bunch black on top in a perlite humidified terrarium (no fan, no air currents, no spores anywhere except below). My question was is this spores or some kind of black bacteria that was mentioned some time ago.Since you are a genius which is it? Do you really know? If it is not spores on top of the caps, why when dried do they have a purple tinge to them? And where was your expert opinion when I posted this http://www.shroomery.org/ubbnoncgi/Forum4/HTML/000806.html Don't call anyone an idiot for asking a question, thats how we learn and improve our processes. If you already know all there is to know what are you doing haning around an amature board like this anyway. Have a nice day.

Spores on the top of the tallest mushroom in the bunch are deposited by convection currents. Small changes in temperature cause the warmer air to rise and cooler air to fall. Rising convection currents starting at bottom carry mushrooms spores upward, the cap is like a wind shield and spores once over the top of the cap are shielded from the rising current and fall back down to be deposited on the cap. Spores are very light and the slightest air current will move them around. ------------------ The Spore Works Exotic Spore Supply http://shroomery.org/~sporeworks

mycelium 5150 what the hell is your problem! Do you think that your word is the last word on all of the mushroom world? I'm glad that other of my fellow shroomerities came to my defense before I read your rediculus retort, thank you my friends for coming to my aid and telling this person about himself.
