Re: Britain to British Columbia? [Re: deff]

Thanks for all the replies im probably gonna come out to BC in 2011 for march/april to catch the end of the snowboarding season, then start to drift along the coastline... i can't get out there til july/september next year which means i'd miss the snow (around Vancouver anyway) so i think its better to wait it out, save up some cash next year, catch the snow in Vancouver for a couple weeks, then wander along the coast as spring starts kicking in

I'm from Ontario, Canada... and figure once I'm done university (one more term), after a vacation to India, I might move to BC and look for a job there

Canada's got a nice atmosphere, and BC is the best Canada has to offer... so yeah, good stuff

Where are you going in India dude?

I love BC, I live in the neighboring province and I visit every year. One day, I'll make the move.

Oddly enough, I know a British guy who lived here then moved to BC, and he was a mechanic.

ah man. those all are great destinations (Varanasi especially imo). I found that the best way to travel India was to have no conscious path to follow but instead allow yourself to be led by unseen forces and signs, and to allow yourself to travel slowly to let it all sink in. Whatever you do out there man, it's a full power land and you'll end up saying 'wow' everyday and lauging more than you ever have before.

I'm in the process of saving some money for my next trip there- but as I've decided to take some university courses since returning it always seems that I am broke at the start of each summer.

honestly you will love it here. you forgot to mention the awesome edible mushroom picking and quite a few magic species you can pick here as well. and the fishing is super good too,you can get a beautiful stealhead instead of an ugly carp!fresh water or ocean fishing is all good. cant forget we even have some good surfing in tofino.
if you want more of a hippe community, hit the gulf islands. so far i have only been to salt spring, quadra and cortes, but they all rule. went to a wicked reggae festival on cortes like 12 years ago.
or the kooteneys, you will love Nelson. during the spring the hippies come out of the wood work for fruit picking season!

but even the fraser valley, if your far enough away from vancouver city , is prety layed back too. and it doesnt get that cold in this area. everywhere else in BC gets pretty cold, but the fraser valey is usually pretty mild. its -3 right now but thats nothing. the rest of the time it rains, and rains bring shrooms so its not so bad.

its probably a total different type of fishing then what ive been used to for 14 years. we usually use baits here, where as i suppose in bc you would use lures  spinners and flys. would take me a while to get into it, but i bet the surroundings are a hell of a lot better while yout fishing, usually sat next to a busy main road when fishing in uk

So true... if they left weed as decriminalized, brought our soldiers back from americas war & tightened up on immigration a bit i might've thought about staying, but everythings turning to crap over here, to be honest its not even the polskis/somalians etc that are that bad, multiculturalism is fantastic.

Its not all of them, its us, the british, the chavs, the gang/knife culture that is destroying this country from the inside out... its all about being macho & hard, total utter ignorant bullshit & im sick of seeing it on my own doorstep, i can't consider having children in this place!

When our own government blew up that bus, the same way the US blew up the twin towers, i knew that i couldn't stand being in this cuntry for much longer

The only thing ill miss is English girls

we have carp here too and the brits and asians are getting people into them. in one lake i can get regular carp, mirror carp, crappie, largemouth bass, rainbow and cuthroat trout, sturgeon, pumpkin seed sunfish, chum and coho salmon and stealhead. the scenery is breathtaking in some places for sure.

not all english girls got cute accents, scouse(liverpool) accent is fucking horrible, and birmingham on girls is pretty annoying. and im completley bored of the fishing here, every fish you catch from a lake has been specifically stocked to be caught, theres no suprises when your fishing here, you mainly either catch a carp, roach tench or bream. would be amazing to fish a lake and have the chance to catch a sturgeon in aesome surroundings.

ya usually we fish sturgeon in the river but we caught them in this lake, and pictures ended up on the internet.well the department of fisheries and oceans somehow caught wind of this catch and gave us a tagging system for the fish because they had no idea they were there.
man when you feel the tug of a 9 foot dinosaur then you know its on!!

probbaly not to the extent that the lakes here are stocked, every fish you catch from a lake has been put there to be caught, and it makes it boring, i like a few suprises when im fishing, probably one of the reasons i havent fished a lake for over a year.

Vancouver is very nice.
That is where I'd go if I moved out there.
Victoria is mediocre
as is Nanaimo.

Some of the small coastal communities on the Sunshine Coast truly have the Hippie Culture.
Look into them. Sechelt comes to mind.

Go for a vacation first and enjoy.

Part of my family lives in sechelt it is beeeeaautiful and very very laid back. I would love to move there.
