Australian Ethno Growers

Hi all

First of all i made this thread to help meet more ethno enthusiasts in Australia preferably fellow cultivators so that we can compare ethno's and how some of the species grow in Australia compared to that of other countries so that we can further expand the list of plants and exotics which can grow in Australia and what can't

I can start this off by introducing myself i am SLiCeR a ethno lover my garden consists of:

Trichocereus pachanoi seedlings and one cutting - Seem to be doing fine in Aust conditions

Psychotria viridis plant grown from leaf - Seem to be doing ok although slight browning of leaves possibly due to low humidty

Silene Capensis plant -  seems to be doing fine and drinks alot of water has flowered once

Hawaiian Baby Woodrose plants - 2 plants grown from seed seem to be doing very well very happy with these young vines progress

Phalaris brachystachys grass - Failed attempt plants simply died tried 2nd attempt in different shaped pot followed by another fail

I will post more info with pics later on today or tomorrow please feel free to contribute to this post.

Off the top of my head some good people to talk to would be Karode13 and J.T. and I know there are more.

I'm from Australia too :grin: I mainly grow cacti though (plus a few mimosa seedlings) but they seem to be doing great here :thumbup:

Hey

I attempted to grow mimosa but the seedling i had whent brown and died maybe it shouldn't have had direct sunlight? maybe i greenhouse would of been sufficient? got any ideas why mine died?

Hmm, that is strange, they weren't too wet or dry were they? It may have been too much sun, mine closed their leaves when it got too hot or sunny for them like they do at night so you should have noticed if it was too sunny.
I had mine in a little gladwrap humidity dome under lights and then they went into the glasshouse but all the windows are open for summer so I don't think the glasshouse is necessary.
How big were yours when they died?

Hey SLiCeR, I mainly grow cacti in Victoria although I have just finished growing my first patch of poppies in Australia. I'm originally from NZ.

Hoping to move into other entheogens in the coming months. If there is anything I can do give me a PM.


And for all you other Aussies Please take a look at
this and if you have any spare seed to donate it would be very much appreciated. If we don't get donations we don't have a Seed bank.

So your starting up a second australian free seed ring? Or are you gearing up for a new chapter for the existing free seed ring?
It looks like the former.

Anyone from the shaman australis crew here? It surprised me that to date I havent seen any of my aussie mates on the shroomery :confused:

This one works a bit differently to a free seed ring. What we have is a seed bank that is contributed to by members of shroomery. They receive points that can be traded for seeds from the bank.

The Aus/NZ Chapter was set up to compliment the main EG seed bank, as getting seed into the country can be a down right pain in the arse. It is a way we can limit losses to customs and also a way to strengthen ties between members in this part of the globe.


I sometimes frequent the corroboree but The Shroomery is my home. :smile:

Yep, plenty of Aussies on this site. I also post on Australian ethnobotany, and the corroboree, but not very often.

Nice to hear i'm a cacti craver too and just had a few poppies which died the afgan variety
i think i left it in the peat pot too long or something i have a few seeds down now but not too sure if they will pop up now what do you reckon?

Hey I'm from Australia I've got a mix of cacti and other ethnos.

In my outdoor greenhouse most of the year and moved inside for winter i have....
Psychotria Viridis - seems OK had a few problems with pest but is getting better.

Psychotria Alba - Is alot easier to grow and has just started flowering.

Banisteriopsis caapi - has grown about a foot in the last 4 weeks.

Iboga - started of slow but is going strong.

In the garden i have.....
Phalaris arundinacea - Growing nice and big.

Phalaris Aquatica - Not growing much.

Catha edulis Red and White - Doing great, loving the summer heat.

And cacti collection so far is...
Trichocereus - Pachanoi, Peruvian, Bridgesii, Bridgesii Monstrose and Macrogonus.

I've been growing for about 6 months.

Hey all I'm a West Aussie my thing is mainly cacti
I still a bit of a noob but I have about 20 in my collection to date
All are new cuttings and are now showing growth and pups with the warm/hot weather.
I will be planting seeds soon and then we will give grafting a bash
Good to see some people from corroboree and Aust Ethnobotany here

I do have this little baby as well :cool:
