My problem with the odds and statistics is that you are still increasing you chance of dieing by getting on a plane as opposed to traveling on a boat.  At least I can escape if something goes wrong on a boat, on a plane there is no escape.  Theres no parachute.  Its just a load of people in a thin bit of metal and plastic hurtling towards the ground.

This is my problem with flying as well!

I've had some pretty fuckin bad flights where the plane just free falls out of the air and you feel like you're plummeting to earth in a metal box.

After one particularly bad flight I had to board another plane, and I was so freaked out from the previous one that I almost refused to get on.
I would have been stranded in BFE but I wasn't thinking rationally!  :weirdeyes:

I really don't like to fly if I can help it, and if I MUST I make sure to take some anti-anxiety meds with me just in case I have a freakout.
You can't shit your pants from being terrified if you're so doped up on Xanax you don't know where you are! :awesome:

The worst or craziest experience was when the plane was descending to Tijuana airport and my ears felt like they were going to pop and bleed. This pain lasted for 30 minutes straight but I did not want seem like a "pussy" so I took it like "a man." I hate flying now.. It is more painful than burning diarrhea!

I went through a thunderstorm that was fucking scary.

We basically ended up flying into a tornado because after we landed everything got cancelled or whatever and we couldn't leave because of all the hail and rain and wind.

It was nuts we dropped for a few seconds a few different times and it looked like you could reach out the window and grab the lightning.

Ive experienced both hard turbulence and also the airholes where the plane litterally drops straight down for a while, i am extremely scared about flying but i love travveling so somehow i keep putting myself through it..

My dads got his private pilots liscence, just picked a new stuntplane, let me tell you roller coasters have nothing on that.

You'd be amazed at the turbulance those planes can handle, and the whole avation is rediculiously regulated and controlled. If it feels like you are literaly inside a giant paint shaker then youre starting to get into some heavy turbulance lol, but a couple seconds of negative G's is nothing at all.

My mom is a retired flight attendant.  Her worst story was from a flight somewhere over New England during Hurricane Hugo.  They had some really bad turbulence, and while she was trying to secure everything in the galley, she was thrown up against the ceiling and then crashed to the floor!  She has had some chronic back problems ever since.

The craziest experience for me was when I was pretty young, maybe 7-8 years old, flying unaccompanied to visit my grandparents in FL.  I was sitting in a window seat watching the baggage handlers load luggage, when I noticed a giant panel on the wing was missing.  I figured that someone would take care of it before takeoff, but we started to push away from the gate and nobody had taken care of it.  I ran up to the flight attendant and told her what I saw, and she relayed the message to the pilots.  The plane immediately stopped, and the pilots said over the intercom that there was a minor maintenance issue they had to take care of before takeoff.  I always wonder what would have happened if I would have kept my mouth shut...

Your "airhole" sounds like a downdraft, which is one of the most dangerous phenomenons especially for small aircraft flying at low alititudes.  They mostly occur around thunderstorms.  My dad and I are both pilots, and he has told me this story before where he was on approach to land at our local airport and there was a thunderstorm approaching the airport from the other direction so he was trying to get on the ground before it hit.  He said he was 1 mile out on final approach when he ran into an updraft.  He pushed the yolk as far forward (nose down) as he possibly could, but his plane was still climbing at over 1000 ft/min!  I think he ended up diverting to another airport and waited out the storm before flying back home..

I won't fly. I don't like heights or having my family groped by the TSA, so I think I will only go places I can drive. I've been on a plane 5 times maybe. I never had a problem like you did. I think my man card would have gone out the window and I would be screaming in fear and anger.

Fuck flying. Not for me. No thanks.

I like the ground.

Flying a glider was fucking awesome, ride in a pavhawk hovering directly infront of the falls was pretty amazing too

I was on a plane over the Andes and we hit some intense turbulence, similar to what MOTH described.  People were screaming and crying, "Ahhhh!"  "We're going to die!"  The turbulence hit while drinks were being served.  The plane buckled and then fell for like twenty seconds.  Streams of drinks from all over the cabin just flew into the air, it was surreal.  A tiny little girl, like 4 or 5 years old, in the seat in front of me, got covered with an entire pot of scalding hot coffee.  She was shrieking. :sad:  People rushed to help her and the flight attendants started screaming, "SIT DOWN!  PLEASE SIT DOWN, WE'RE IN SEVERE TURBULENCE!"  A nun and a doctor came over to the little girl, and she was treated for her burns.  Luckily it wasn't serious.  The plane kept rocking, people were praying and sobbing.  Shit was intense!  I was watching a French rom com, trying to tune everything out. :tongue:

That was three months ago.  I've flown three times since then, and every time there's been some turbulence - not much, but enough to put me a bit on edge.  I used to be a very tranquil flyer, and I'm still not at all afraid to get on a plane.  The possibility of being in a crash on a commercial flight are so remote as to be absurd to worry about.  I live in a city where it would be easy to get run over by a ridiculously aggressive taxi or a bus driver, so I'm more worried about that.:lol:

I brought down an entire plane with a neocube :bobmarley: I fucked up the air conditioner which took its toll on the electrical circuits. They never caught me tho :lol:
