I love i-ching
I love reading it as a codex, not augury, not mystical: I get great pointers on good attitude.

I don't think the i-ching thread should have been moved from philosophy.
this is about metaphors and personality
and is not mystical in the least unless abused as an oracle.

people are easily too tight on "logical" syllogism sometimes,
without even realizing that logical links are not different internally than metaphors (i.e. how consciousness makes thoughts), they are just formatted more conventionally, (ritualistic if you will).
also people should be able to see that good metaphors often function without conventional formatting. (intuition)

you can always take a great metaphor and dress it up conventionally later.
I think more people should enjoy the i-ching, it is very comprehensive with regard to internal mental politics, the family within, the country within, the life journey, etc.

that is core psychology.

I haven't read it but Yi Jing (I Ching) does deserve some cred. Yi Jing did start off being a divination manual but later it was reinterpreted as a work of cosmology and philosophy, making it earliest work of Chinese philosophy.

but later it was reinterpreted

By who? I don't trust those reinterpreters.:mad2:

The Waring States period Chinese. I am not endorsing Yi Jing, but rather saying it is not off topic for this forum because of the important place it has in the history of Chinese philosophy (provided that it is it's philosophical ideas that are talked about rather than using it for divination).

Edit: According to Wikipedia one of the reinterpreters was Confucius with his 10 commentaries.

it is all pretty good, and better when taken together
throwing coins or sticks helps steer you through it.
just found >>>this<<< while looking for my familiar version.

My favorite is 52 keeping still, mountain

(as much as i like tarot, this is much more explicit, in a YODA kind of way)

Actually I find the opposite to be true. The Crowley book on Tarot I mostly use is an amazing book of human psychology imo.

Course considering your posts I can see why you like the Ching.

It,s true, some of the Eastern Philosophies are very good. Why do you think Eastern Societies are having so many problems, and in general are doing no better than Western Society.  In my opinion Christian Societies are doing a better job, but not much.

Anyway, Eastern societies if they are having problems may well be do to adopting westernization.

I've had a copy of the I Ching for about 10 years.  I always have used it to just pick up and read few chapters then put down.  It has great insight.

It wasn't until a few months ago that I realized there was a mystic reading technique to it, with sticks or coins.

Mysticism aside, I still find it a good book for thought.

can you please explain what you are talking about?

Please make reference to the way eastern societies existed for the thousands of years before western economies started taking over the world?

Did you read the OP? Is that not "oracle abuse"?

true,
but I would have helped the thread veer back on course.

the only useful comparison that I can make with certainty is that before the 20th century, asian states managed much higher populations through their particular use of caste, tradition, philosophies, and superstitions.

the current economic reversals and electronic networking do not seem stable in the same way as caste, tradition, philosophies, and superstitions used to be.

however, I think that i-ching could be brought into the picture, whether it will or not is another matter.

the trick to pulling the yoda act is to create sentences that touch the issues but don't actually declare, encircle or grasp the issues.
in this way it helps resolve the issue class or type, yet lets the reader complete the connection a little further and still not commit the resolving class or type.
this sets up the mind with more readiness and options but with less preconceived reactivity to the issue at hand.
many references are made to an "intelligent" man, and governance.
like your inner obama.

I've always used "oracles" in this fashion. Actually imo there is no other way they can be used. Think on this.
