Sorry, but they don't look like liberty caps. Take a closer look at both Panaeolus foenisecii and Psilocybe semilanceata and you'll see that they have very few actual details in common. Apart from that Psilocybe semilanceata don't grow in NSW and where they do they only occur in fall.

They turned out to be active? I'd love to know what they were for definite because they're clearly not liberty caps but a few local cow presents are sporting some similar fungii.

Appears to be of the Panaeolus genera.  You should report your experience.

Aren't pan foe's not active?

And don't listen to people who are not trusted identifiers(T.I.'s) Such as myself. That was just my guess which could have been horribly innacurate.

Why were you in such a hurry to eat those? Be more patient....

Pan foes are inactive. You were quite right.

And @ the OP: Even if these were Panaeolus cinctulus and not Panaeolina foenisecii, you'd have to eat like 40-50 to trip, not 4 or 5. Placebo all the way. And what's up with eating unidentified mushrooms or mushrooms that have been identified as non-active anyways?
There's a more surefire way of getting high if you are that desperate. How about huffing glue or duster? Kids. :nonono:

Maybe he already ate them and it was urgent because he was thinking of getting his stomach pumped.

Here is a literal translation of GK's head slap:  You should never consume a mushroom of which is absent a positive identification!  There are serious consequences you risk facing!

I felt that German Kahuna's headslap was the embodiment of his frustration as being an unused resource as a trust identifier.

No. It was an expression of my frustration about kids that do very stupid things, like eating not properly identified mushrooms while they know nothing about mushrooms themselves. He clearly thought he was eating libs when he ate them "because they looked like libs".

It's the very intelligent "eat first, ask later" Russian roulette technique of "maybe I'll get high or maybe I'll get my stomach pumped".
