this piece of tissue was also brought to me. this time, not sure at all what it is... had a few ideas, but after 30 minutes, those were shot down.

pics are kind of bad, but still have it bagged in the fridge if need arises for more.

stem is a little more rough than the cap, and blackish/brown, also the stems fibers seem really strandy.

White print.

anyone take a stab?

peace

That Dalton GUy,

You sure seem to make a lot of misidentifications in many of your posts.

That is not a Stropharia nor anywhere near one. Stropharias have chocolate brown to dark chocolate brown spore prints.

It may be a Collybia?

mj

I think mj has the right idea. My guess is that is one of the various kinds of Flammulina velutipes (which were, of course, originally in Collybia).

Is the cap slimy or sticky? If not, try checking by getting your fingertip wet with water and lightly rubbing it (that'll make you feel like some sort of pervert, won't it - watch, everybody, I stroke mushrooms).

Happy mushrooming!

What was it growing on? I am pretty sure Flammulina velutipes is a wood loving mushroom, and it has a nice soft almost velvety stalk to it. Thats my guess even though the gills don't look that widely spaced apart.

not slimy, found on grass. ---lol toxic.

the cap feels like that of a cube. the gills do not connect to the stipe. playing with it -- the stem seems to be the most interesting part of it, as its so unique. (to me -- from all the rest of common mush)

the brown stipe resembles like -- chewed up toothpicks formed into a chocolate stem. ( best way i can put it.)

theres no real strong smell at all to it. fully mature, still with nipple on top of cap.

hope these tidbits help.

thanks for the replies.

peace
