Mycobag colonization
    #11447917 -

Alright guys, this first attempt at growing and I just got my mycobag not too long ago.  Its been about a week and a half since I started incubating and haven't peeked at all, until today.  I don't see any sign colonization.  I know that's probably growing from the inside out, but can anyone tell me at about what time period after incubating should I start seeing any growth of mycelium?

If you inoculated in the center of the bag you probably wont see growth for about 2-3 or maybe even 4 weeks.  If its been 10 days so far, I'd say your at about 30-40 percent colonization.

Go ahead and shake the bag up, breaking up the seeds or whatever is in your mycobag.  You might not see white, this is because once you break up your contents, the mycelium retracts immediately, and you wont see much white, it will take the mycelium 24 hours to stretch itself back out, if you dont see anything a week after shaking, you may have gotten bogus spores.  Where did you buy them from?

I bought them from the Hawkes Eye.

And yea I inoculated in the middle, so I'm not too worried since that's probably why I'm not seeing anything yet.

Is that a good website or did I waste my money?

The Hawkes Eye is a shroomery sponsor, so you ordered from the right place.  Go ahead and give her a shake.  Whats your substrate?  Rye berries?

I'm not sure exactly, like I said, I'm really new to this but I got the bag from The Mad Season and it says on there that their bags contain a grain based mix and it can be used as spawn for a bulk substrate.  But for now, since I'm just starting, I'll just do everything in the bag, test out the shrooms once their grown and then on my second flush I'll spawn it.  Is that a good idea?

Did you shake the syringe prior to injecting the spores?

Yes, I did everything I was supposed to do I believe.  I was extremely clean.  I wore latex gloves and cleaned those with rubbing alcohol, cleaned the area where I injected the spores, and cleaned the needle all with rubbing alcohol.  I've also had it in dark place in my closet.

How will you test mushrooms when they are still in the mycobag? YOU CANT.

Mycobags are used for spawn purposes, meaning you will be using that spawn with a substrate like horsepoo or coir/coffee/verm , the contents of your mycobag will be used to colonize your bigger substrate, and you will then make a casing or a tub.

I think you need to do some more reading. . . try out the PF Tek for cake grows.

Are you sure?  Because I've read all over the place of people growing in the bag.

It says right on the website that you can grow the mushrooms in the bag.  I know I won't get as big of a flush, but I'm not looking to get a big one anyway, I'm just testing this out.

This is what I hate about the shroomery, too many people talking right out of their ass.

First of all, at 4 weeks you should be 100% colonized, even if you are using a 4lb mycobag which is approximately 4 qts.

Second of all, how many CC of spores did you inoculate with?

You should see signs of growth at the bottom of the bag at least by 2 weeks, since gravity will naturally force the spores to the bottom of the bag.

But, you really want to avoid moving these bags at all because unlike a hard jar, when you move the bags your spawn will move as well due to the flexible nature of these bags. So, if you have to peek and look to see if the bottom is colonizing, just move it slightly.

Again, how many CC's of spore did you use?

Again, talking right out of his ass. What the hell is the feel family? And is this guy representative of what they contribute to the shroomery?

You can fruit directly out of the spawn bag. It won't be as good as a bulk grow but if this is your first time then it'll likely be better than PF tek depending on how big of a bag you bought. The thing is, WBS is not a great substrate to fruit off of because it does not retain moisture as well, but you will be fine.

Massage the bag at 30% colonization gently. and make sure you don't touch the filter patch, and stop listening to the nonsense this ezwider guy is providing. I don't know why people contribute when they don't know squat about what they are talking about

As TLW stated, you can fruit directly in the TMS Growbag. Those bags are MADE to be able to get fruits without ever opening it.

I currently have 2 TMS bags (inoculated 2 weeks ago), and I saw growth in under a week. I only used 2.5cc per bag and they are coming along very nicely, even in the colder temperatures (around 60*).

Mine came sealed tight, so I pulled some air into the bag (to make sure there was enough for GE). Be gentle! This may not be needed, but I thought it would be nice to get some fresh air in there.

Yea I'll post some pictures up once I see some progress.  Btw, what temp should I keep it at during colonization?  I've been keeping it between 75-80 degrees F.  Any suggestions?

I just started one too. I read that after 10 days you should see signs of growth, and 3-4 wks til' fully colonized.
