Mycobag Colonization Prob
    #1079454 - 11/23/02 03:38 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Aight heres my situation...

i sterilized everythin before inoculatin my mycobag with 3 ccs total of Puerto rican. Anyway that was 2 weeks ago and i checkd to day and its not lookin good.

take note im in tha neast, cold, snow, rain (i think hi humitidy) and the rooms pretty warm75-78 and i have a small heat pad next to it.

i injected 1 cc on the left and 1cc on the right of the middle of the substrate because the needle wouldnt reach between teh bag and the substrate. i also injected 1cc over the middle top of the substrate.

as of today the mycelium (white stuff) is on ly on the bottom of the bag and substrate and its really hard i think or the susbstrate is hard down there and its cracked in the middle and i can see it goes in like an inch or so intothe substrate so i think its colonizin inside out but then again i have no idea?????, also its not dry out i dont think, it looks kinda moist in there but its not liek thers condensation and stuff. i dont kno if this is all normal could anyone give me tips to speed up mycellium cuz its been two weekds and hardly any of it is there and i have no clue if its gonne spread?

if there's no condensation in the bag, it's too dry. You will need to inject sterilized water or it will never fully colonize.

Aight yo, i just went thru the the bag and layed it on its side and it tursn out that like on the two sides where i inoculated theres two big chucks(like rocks) of hard mycelium within the rest is stubstrate. the mycelium is hard i didnt break it but i mixed all the substrate up again and the bottom thouroughly got mixed with the middle

i definatly need water cuz its alittle dry - some of the substrate is dark cuz its wet and some is light cuz its dry i guess. my question is this....

i think it might need more spores to get it goin or i need to break the mycelium but i also need water so can i do this.
i still have the syringe from with 7 cc pe spores. as far as i kno, (tho not sure) these syringes consist of sterilized water and spores, if the spores die theres only water i would think. anyway, i have the syringe in my fridge but my fridge is so strong it freezes stuff so i think the spores mya have died. (like when i take a water bottle out of the fridge the middle of the water is ice and the res is like slush). i don tkno if hte syringe water ever froze but can't i just inject more of this solution into the bag and it should solve bof my problems????????

I wish it were true that a sealed mycobag will not lose its moisture, but it will. Especially with a heating pad. My squirrel had done this on his first grow. The key if you need to use a heating pad would be to roll the bag down from the top tightly until you get past the filter, then roll it 2 more times and clothespin it shut.

true that no moisture may leak from the bag, however one cannot assume that perciperation wouldnt take place and causeall the moisture to take a hike to the other side of the bag...
by the way i have no idea if perciperation is a real word...

damn yo i broke up the two chuncks of mycellium an i checked today and thebags like fully colonized on the top and one side! its crazy.
i jus wanted to say thanks alot for that advice and that this forum is awesome.
i dont think my heatin pad dried it out that much at all i guess. anyway, its like 30% colonized i guess but im goin out of town for the next week. u think if i leave it without heat and without light, it'l slow in colonizin and not pin? the temp'l be like 75 in here and in the dark. Also What kind of tips can u guys give me on pinnin?

like should i cold shock or not bother? should i take it out of the bag? should i wrap the bag in aluminum? i dont kno, i heard alot a stuff so if u guys could gimme a few tips to help me maximize yield i'll be in the fruitin stage soon.(hoefully not too soon while im not here) later.

>Like should i cold shock or not bother?
I think yes, it worked for me, but dunk it while your cold shocking it.
>should i take it out of the bag?
If you want. it's all a matter of preference
>should i wrap the bag in aluminum?
If your going to fruit inside the bag, then yes, you dont want pins on the edges.
>i dont kno, i heard alot a stuff so if u guys could gimme a few tips to help me maximize yield i'll be in the fruitin stage soon.
You could take it out of the bag, dunk it after every flush, and let it fruit in a terrarium or case it.

Well when I dunk, I cold shock it too, just to keep down the contams. my cake is still alive and kicking. I'm hoping for a 5th flush.

yo can u guys give me like detailed directions on the prcess of "dunking" and "cold shockin" i checked the faq and its very vague on cold shockin and i couldnt find anyfin bout dunkin. like what materials i should use, fridgetemp, etc.
Yo daussalt, i saw your mycobag growlogs and i think you've got the best knoweldge of mycobags, i wanna maximize my yield but minimize chances of contamination so for fruitin, can u give me like directions on makin a terranium or somefin where i could keep the cake.

Just put it in the fridge for 24 hours. If you need more info, try this link.

Mine's a flowerpot with saran wrap over the top.

>i wanna maximize my yield but minimize chances of contamination so for fruitin
Keep it clean dunk after every flush, and maintain the optimal environmental parameters.

>Yo daussalt
Please, it's daussaulit, learn how to read and spell.
