Mushroom Growing 'FAQ' per species/strain
    #11409638 -

I was thinking that it would be really convenient to have an extensive 'FAQ' about mushroom growing parameters per species. So that if one were to search for a less common species they would still be able to find a list of cultivation requirements like fruiting temperatures, ideal spawn and substrate mixes etc. A list of things one needs to know about cultivating a specific mushroom species.

Of course opinions differ about what the best substrate for a specific species may be but I think usually a consensus can be reached on what works well and what doesn't work.

I have looked around a bit but haven't been able to find such a 'list'/'FAQ' whatever you'd call it.

So what do you all think about this?

That isn't available online is it?

edit: I have the book but I was thinking since most people don't have it that it'd be good to have that information online.

It also doesn't have all species. It has 8 edibles and 8 actives listed.

Edit: Correction: 10 edibles and 6 actives.

True. That may have been all that was known. ATL 7 is not in there, for example.

Has anybody searched over in the Gourmet and Edibles forum? I haven't and I have to go to work.
Good luck with this!

What would be ideal IMO is if someone could make a form in which we could put all the data. I am not very good with making stuff on computers but I wouldn't mind inputting the data.

Then we could have a list of all species somewhere on the site with links to the forms. It'd be like a mini mushroom cultivation encyclopedia.

(I don't have to go to work just yet.)

I think we should adopt the same format used in TMC, since many of us have that and are used to it. We certainly can't copy the info directly, but I know that there are people who have this stuff memorized or even have improved on it.

Good point. We also might want to add some additional information. Links to specific growlogs and the like.

Certainly so. Eventually it would be nice to have each species listing have a link to both successful and experimental grows.

But to start out, just the basics. Temps, spawn run duration, a picture of some mycelium.

Yeah. We shouldn't want to do too much at once. First we have to decide on a list of stats we want to add.

I think it would be best if empty forms were created somewhere on the site for all species that are being cultivated. And then some people would be able to input data into those empty forms.

I would like to ass the most important thing, Substrate of choice.

I know cube grow on anything. But its important to know that mexicana like ryegrass more, pans like manure ect ect.

I like this idea. I haven't been cultivating long enough to know all the info that needs to be in the sheet, but if I had a list of parameters I could whip up a nice spreadsheet template to use.

Looks like there already is a list of sorts. But have only found one for edibles.

HERE

Never knew this thing existed.

Nice. I'll use this to organize a template for is to use. See if I can't add spots for pics and links to growlogs.

Why not make this a wiki? It seems like the best way for everyone to collaborate their knowledge, post their teks, etc. It can be set up to protect certain pages, require registration (using forum information), etc.

Wiki sounds interesting but putting it on the Shroomery would make it a lot more accessible.

Edit: There is also a function to add data on the Shroomery. I think people would be more likely to add information once an empty space is created in which they can input the desired information.

No reason it couldn't be done as a wiki on the shroomery. Something like "shroomery.org/wiki". It would be a great place to consolidate a lot of the other info around here too, such as teks, substrate recipes, fc design etc.....  I'd happily work on some of the design if I knew for sure it would be added to the site.
