with the invention of thimerosal, bacteria in vaccines have dropped dramatically, its VERY effective at what it does, killing bactera that gets into multi-use vials of injection medicine.

The type of mercury in the preservative is mostly benign, and you shit out over 90% of it in less than 72 hours.  The rest does take a while to filter out, but its a very tiny amount.  Ethyl mercury is the type in the medication, and not that bad, nor has ANY evidence come out that actually links it to autism and all these other problems people say it causes.  Methyl mercury on the other hand, is some nasty stuff, and can easily poison you as it builds up in your system.

I have heard two opinions so far.  The first was from my PI, a PHD working in immunology. 

She said that her biggest concern was how rushed this vaccine was... as they normally take a year.  Certain safety precautions had to have been skipped.  However, she still said she would reccomend high risk people to take it.


The other person was my biochem teacher, and he reccomended that everyone take it, if not only to avoid puking for a few days.


So, take it as you will, its probably not gonna kill you or do permanant damage.

Yeah i think the whole people thinking its a conspiracy are kinda on a limb with this one.  I think the governments just as shady as the next stoner, but i also think this vaccine is a good thing and has probably helped curb it and also has saved lives of people in high risk groups.

I agree here, the swine flu scare is being made into something it isn't, I just laugh when I see people with the face masks on anymore, it's ridiculous.

i've heard of only two people who have now permanent damage from the "regular" flu shot =(  one has a very serious condition that actually causes memory loss...

seems like allergic reactions exist.. and they can be very serious- its a very small percentage of the population though...

-i think what he means is that its a scare tactic, the more afraid you are, the more likely you are to make a rushed, and probably emotionally-biased, decision... maybe even a decision that allows outsiders to have more control over your life... for your safety ;P    see where im going?

I had the swine flu and it was fun compared to regular good ol flu.

I can almost garuntee you that martial law had nothing to do with this, like rakipo said, I bet it has something to do with the economy and trying to get money.

fear of mercury was 1 tiny element in the big picture of being skeptical. what you said at the end there would be a HUGE reason why i am skeptical, the hyping and hysteria is just fucking ridiculous, they're providing this big buffet of fucking lies and distractions and i'm not gonna take a bite

Evidence? You need tangible evidence? Like how, a website url to a "reputable" source telling you the accurate opinion/infotainment of the day because you can't discern things for yourself, albeit with a human and inherently biased eye? What constitutes a credible source?

I am one of the lucky few that has had the Swine flu twice now.
The first time I got it was in CALI on a training exercise. we had 233 pepole, from all over the country in one huge tent. Naturally somebody was sick when it began, and we were all sick by the end of training. From my experience I will say that I was able to operate in 120 degree temps with not much more then a dazed, stuffed up, I hat e my life feeling, but i didnt miss a single day of training.
  The second time I got it was just last week. We went ot do CO. Physicals and shot updates. I am one of those people that if you give me a vaccine I get sick, so by right normally I decline on flu vaccines. what struck me as odd is that when I tried to decline on teh H1N1 vac. they told me it was manditory. So i talked to the medic for a bit and explained that Ive already been exposed and that I really dont want to get sick again, but his response was,  no choice, and he gave me the shot. this is where it gets interesting, If I have already been exposed to the full bore strain as I was, then I should have no problems with teh vac. Yet, I got sicker from that shot then I normally do.
i think the bottom line is that you should be grateful that you have the choice to take it or not. I didnt have that luxory afforded to me. If you have a strong Immune system and trust it tehn dont take it. If not then you might be better off with it. If you dont trust the govt, then pass, If you do then go for it.

Yea I didnt know about that at all. That kind of shit is fuxed up and is, in my opinion, grounds for RIOT. I can understand in nthe Mil. world cause we signed up to be guinnipigs, but on the civilian side, holyshit!
