Yeah there was no rumble, nor a squeal. I'm guessing I caught it pretty early in the stage. No worries, the rear brake pads were completely worn, even though apparently, I didn't need to change the rotor.

With the bearing they use on German cars (2 rows of round ball bearings, vs the long cylinder rollers commonly found on American and Asian cars) when they first start go go bad they get a rhythmic sqeaking noise... much like you get from banging sluts while coked on an old mattress.

the sound from the brakes may have covered the sound from the bearings,
and as you said, the pads needed to be replaced so I wasnt really wrong

I don't think all wheel drive mercedes existed in the 80s, but what do I know.

you know pris, the mechanic said that the brake noise covered the bearing noise, but I'm not buying it.

The bearing noise that is present now, sounds exactly the same- if not worse, than when I took the car in. I think he was just trying to cover his own ass, after suckering me into getting the rotors replaced as well.  :rockets:

I don't really know, I've never fucked with anything that isn't RWD, refuse to. Nor anything other than a BMW or a Mercedes, I'm pretty die hard about German cars.

I just hear like on mustangs and most American trucks and cars and some Asian cars they're the pin bearings.

I just knew because all of the bearings that they use on German cars ALWAYS start making a sound like that around 130-150k miles, every single one of them.

Prisoner's diagnosis was a logical one. A wheel bearing that makes a grinding noise has long since passed the point of "rumbling" that is typical of a bad wheel bearing.

You, or the previous driver, seem to have missed the rumbling part. It can be pretty subtle and easily drowned out by open windows or loud sound systems (or a significant other who yaks incessantly).

UPDATE 10/26/09:

Will be taking this vehicle to that mechanic I was talking about for bearings/bushels replacement, check on the front brake pads, check on the shocks, and perform necessary repairs.

Hopefully everything goes well.
