updating your iPod
    #5538083 - 04/20/06 03:16 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Alright so I'm attempting to update my iPod from a different computer that doesn't have my normal iTunes Music Library. When I try to update I get this message.

"The iPod XXX is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library?"

Does this mean that all the songs already on my iPod will be erased and only the new songs I'm adding will update onto the iPod? Or are the songs already on the iPod safe and I can successfully update music from a different music library.

Thanks in advance

replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod

i'd just click no, and then try to add more songs anyway.

Tried that. It just wouldn't update.

Yea, it will erase everything on your iPod right now and replace it w/ the other stuff. iPods only let you d/l music from 1 computer.

They don't. Can't remember what I did to the options or whatever on mine but I switch between 3 computers I frequently use and plug the iPod in and put music on from all 3.

Can't remember how I did it so it isn't helpful at all I know..

I think (this could be total rubbish though) if you have your iTunes set to auto update your iPod with new music when you plug it in, that stops you from using it on other computers.

As I say, could be total rubbish. That's the only thing I can remember setting up when I first got my iPod.

I think that chikitta is right.

You don't want that auto update bullshit. I use my iPod on lots of computers. Hell, I'm visiting family in America right now (cry for me this 4/20) and I've got some new songs that I downloaded to my iPod today.

iTunes asks me if I want to update, but I say hell no. And then I click the fuck off button so it stops asking me that damn question.

this is what i do

OK I tried that but I still can't update my iPod. When I go to File -> Update iPod, Update iPod isn't even an option, its not bolded.

Any suggestions?
