The Gore-tex terrarrium
    #1117881 - 12/06/02 04:04 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

If you mad a cube of gore-tex it would hold in moisture but allow air exchange. You could set it up kinda like the rich man's food-serving thingy terrarrium on fanaticus. The casings and cakes would sit on a plate of some sort and you could life up the whole gore-tex cube to harvest and then place it back. I imagine enough light would get through too. Any reason this wouldn't work anybody?

Cause it'd be too expensive, at least all the goretex I've seen has been.

I use a similar technique but use Tyvek. You will find Tyvek much more affordable as well.

what secret technology are you referring to, joshua? don't tell me you use a tivek envelope as an autoclavable myco bag? and, if you aren't, what is your use of the tivek? and btw, what about using a tivek bag as a mycobag? last, i seem to remember that 6tango used the goretex with success

My understanding of Gor-Tex is that it is designed to allow water vapor (humidity) to pass through but block liquid dropplets (rain, ect..). This is why gor-tex is favorable for outdoor clothing, it allows persperation to pass through.

A lot of people are using tyvek for filter discs, that's what I do. I would imagine spawning pasteurized shit in a tyvek envelope would work well. Or even sterilization might, someone should try it.

I have incorporated Tyvek(r) into a small greenhouse, just as the topic poster was inquiring about. That's about all I'd like to say at this time other than my results have been excellent. PM me for details.

I can't imagine either GoreTex(r) or Tyvek(r) would make a suitable mycobag. I know Tyvek(r) to be permeable to mycelium, this would cause plenty of problems.

I see I mis-understood your idea. But some good ideas were released any way.

I have fruited a mushroom through Tyvek. There is a pic somewhere. It wasn't huge but shows it is possible. I thought of the same idea you have before I saw it and was encouraged afterwards to experiment someday. Maybe I will try this soon.
