That's pretty sweet. It's amazing how so many people want to get rid of the space program...They're already talking about scraping the plans to build a moon base by 2020 as a launch pad for Mars. Just think how cool that would be to see someone land on Mars in our lifetime.
Not to mention that 99% of the communications devices and many other everyday things we use would not be here if not for the space program.

Moon base is completely irrelevant for Mars.
Completely.
There is no reason to build any kind of base on the moon. It would be a massive waste of expenditure for absolutely no gain. For the science benefits, you might as well build a huge fucking base in the middle of the Mojave. It's pointless.
A Mars base, however, would be completely self-sufficient and provide great benefits. Needs to be done as soon as possible.
