Cacti Id?
    #11145542 -

So this is my first forte into enthobotanicals.  I am pretty sure that this is a san pedro.  Could someone please tell me what it is?  Also what is this black shit on it?

Definitely not a pedro.  My guess is that it may be a Stenocereus marginatus.

That is definitelynot a T. Pachanoi (san pedro).
I can't even see what would make you think so.
POC hit the nail on the head with his I.D.

100% sure it's not a pedro.  Still a cool cactus, though.  Look up Stenocereus marginatus and you'll see it's got the same lines down the ribs (which Trichocereus do not have).

EDIT: Oops, a bit late on the draw on my part :P

Dude! You have a lot of learning to do if you think that looks like a San Pedro. Not all cacti that are columnar and green happen to be SP.

Quite a common mistake as well. I think it is part cactus ignorance and part wishful thinking

Common mistake dude, just hang around here more often and use good ole google and you'll get the hang of it.
I understand that in the beginning a lot of cacti look similar, everyone does this.
Just type in Pedro pics or Pachanoi pics in the search engine and youll get no shortage of pics.

yea that really sux but its still a cool looking cacti.  Believe me ppl it has a much better home than what it was living in there was 2 inches of root hanging out of the bottom of its container as soon as i brought it home I transplated it.  Like I said I am a total newb.  I am quite good at growing shrooms.  Would it be possible to graft a peyote to this cacti?

Don't worry about it, I think I was even more clueless when I first started. Anyway, this thread by cactusdan should help you Id pedro.

Yeah, they make decent grafting stock in my experience.

No need to graft a pedro to that cactus you've got there.  Something like a Lophophora, Astrophytum, or other slower-growing cacti would be better suited for it.  Look up Kada's Garden and there's plenty to read that will get you started

You graph slow growing cacti onto ones that grow faster. You'd be better off just growing a San Pedro.

Look at the thread that drift linked (made by cactusdan)
It tells you what to look for when searching for a San Pedro.

Thanks for the link guys!

Please do take a look at my guide, as it should help you a lot.

The main defference between san pedro and the marginatus is that the marginatus has cephaleum that runs down the middle of the ribs almost looking like it has vertical stripes.

This is very unique to this cactus, and it is small things like that which can not be overlooked.
