Outdoor Mushroom As Garden Feature?
    #11140727 -

Has anybody ever thought about using some of the mushroom cultivation techniques to create garden accent pieces? Of course, you would have to use species that won't land your ass in jail, but imagine the impact of a strategically placed hay log, for example, sprouting oyster or shitaki mushrooms. Not to mention the holy grail of an amita muscara popping up under your pine tree, perhaps next to a water feature and near a convenient bench!

Has anybody tried it? I know mushroom don't last that long, but at least they repeat-flush. Plenty of perennials are less reliable then that IMO.

I got this idea from some of the photos I've seen here at the shroomery, with mushrooms growing out of just about anything.

Peace from...
around the corner

I don't know if you mean garden feature as decorative but I have grown them in and around my garden. The problem being is that usually they have to be planted between rows or under the foliage of plants, as the light would obviously dry and kill them. But when planted under tomato plants for instance, it makes a great micro climate as the leaves retain moisture and provide shade for the shrooms underneath.

I have also grown different colored oysters under a shaded area, it was very cool looking and acted as a great compost maker as the oysters will consume about anything.
