System of a Down
    #1111164 - 12/04/02 07:11 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

anyone hear their new CD ? "Steal this Album" its fuckin sweet!

i am very impressed with the vocalist, Surj, and the stuff he sings. Lots of philosophical and political content. very honest and heart-felt.
whenever i hear that music it gives me a boost of inspiration to keep on fighting the good fight. It is proof of how we feed off each others energy to bring out the light.

You may not want to throw about the term "proof" so loosely with Mr. Mushrooms  and Swami stalking about.

No offence intended guys

Not so much philosophy but yeah, some political content.

Personally I think they are over-rated. Not saying they are bad or anything.

I like that singer guy. In concert he looks like a wizard.

System rocks so hard, I love them more than my mother. If you haven't been listening to the lyrics, you're missing out.

One that smiled when he flew over the bay,

Hell yeah!

I've listened to em, I like the lyrics too, I'm just sayin that they don't even need em.  It's just good drunken-jumpin-around-shovin-fuckers music.

"Wired were the eyes of a horse on a jet pilot,

What in the bloody hell does that mean anyway?

Yes, SOAD is definitely one of the best bands i have heard. They are partially responsible for my "waking up" to the world around me (shrooms helped me with that too) and all the dirt beneath the polish of corporate America. The name i have chosen for myself here is inspired by many things, including the title track off their second album, Toxicity:

Conversion, software version 7.0,
Looking at life through the eyes of a tire hub,
Eating seeds as a past time activity,
The toxicity of our city, of our city,

New, what do you own the world?
How do you own disorder, disorder,
Now, somewhere between the sacred silence,
Sacred silence and sleep,
Somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep,
Disorder, disorder, disorder.

More wood for their fires, loud neighbors,
Flashlight reveries caught in the headlights of a truck,
Eating seeds as a past time activity,
The toxicity of our city, of our city,

New, what do you own the world?
How do you own disorder, disorder,
Now, somewhere between the sacred silence,
Sacred silence and sleep,
Somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep,
Disorder, disorder, disorder.

When I became the sun,
I shone life into the man's hearts,
When I became the sun,
I shone life into the man's hearts.

Peace

Sorry, but I got nothing from that song.

Try some TOOL-

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more
and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going, going...

I like that song, but Murex knows, listen to some Tool on a good solid dose.

I think Aenima has to be my favorite album, Lateralus is good, but Aenima is much more mysterious sounding.  I hate to say it, but it's not as "popish" as Lateralus.  :frown:

"Popish"? Im sorry my friend but i must step in here.
There is nothing popish sounding about Lateralus. Lateralus is on a completely different level than Aenima, as Aenima is on a different level from Undertow. From Opiate to Lateralus, Tool has progressively evolved. Its the best way to describe the change in their style. One might say Aenima sounds a bit angrier, but thats just from a first glance. I've actually heard that Aenima's about Fear and Love, or atleast some of the songs are. And fear and love are "...totally void of hate" and anger.
I might be overstepping, but id have to say Lateralus is an almost Zen like, or Enlightened type of music.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I agree with thePatient on this.

Aenima is a great album- I believe that without this one album, Tool would be nothing. It is probably tied with Lateralus in my book. I instantly fell in love with Tool when I heard Aenima.

Back in the day.........(wavy fade out into another scene)

I was with some friends crammed in a small car (6 people) who were all talking. But then I heard this amazing music that left me astounded and all I could do was concentrate on listening. This music had a hard sound and yet it spoke to me with it's lyrics. I was in awe and all I could say was "Shutup, I'm trying to listen to this!" after asking what album it was.

I have always liked Tool, but since Aenima- they have moved up from what I thought was just another Heavy rock band.

TOOL rocks!  :smirk:

Yeah, that System song doesn't really have much lyrically compared to others, its just a really good song, one that first got my attention. Ive started listening to Tool recently because of what people here have to say about them and decided to get each album in order because of the progression thePatient mentioned.

Cmon guys, Tool is the fucking shit, my FAVORITE band definately
they are really into a trippy ego-less state of mind, about divinity and oneness, and being honest with one's own emotions... very personal stuff

BUT, imo, SOAD is no less spiritual than Tool, they just choose to take a different path. Instead of waking people up to themselves, they are revealing the honest truths about governments and how they control people. They are spreading wisdom to the youth. They are NOT about 'rocking out'. They are trying to help people of the world by stopping the lies (reminiscent of Rage against the Machine)

I suggest you check out some more of the songs and get the lyrics for them. There are strong messages behind all of them.

I love that song.

Thats what I'm talking about right there...
here's some more lyrics:

DDevil
Plagiarized existence exist,
Among the writers of the word,
Shake your spear at Shakespeare,
Shake your spear at Shakespeare,

Loud and noisy,
Strong refrigerators,
Gaining independence,
Gaining independence,

Stupid people do stupid things,
Smart people outsmart each other,
Then themselves, then themselves,
Then themselves, then themselves,

Take me down there,
Photographic relapse,
People feeding frenzy,
The devil is so lovely,

My blue moon rivets in exits,
Forewarned customary spirits,
By myself, by myself,
By myself, by myself,

Take me down there,
Photographic relapse,
People feeding frenzy,
The devil is so lovely.

Prison Song
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,

Following the rights movements
You clamped on with your iron fists,
Drugs became conveniently
Available for all the kids,
Following the rights movements
You clamped on with your iron fists,
Drugs became conveniently
Available for all the kids,

I buy my crack, my smack, my bitch
right here in Hollywood.

Nearly 2 million Americans are incarcerated
In the prison system, prison system,
Prison system of the U.S.

Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
You don't even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
Against the new non-rich,
Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
You don't even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
Against the new non-rich,

The percentage of Americans in the prison system
Prison system, has doubled since 1985,

They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
For you and me,
Oh baby, you and me.

All research and successful drug policy show
That treatment should be increased,
And law enforcement decreased,
While abolishing mandatory minimum sentences,
All research and successful drug policy show
That treatment should be increased,
And law enforcement decreased,
While abolishing mandatory minimum sentences.

Utilizing drugs to pay for secret wars around the world,
Drugs are now your global policy,
Now you police the globe,

I buy my crack, my smack, my bitch
right here in Hollywood.

Drug money is used to rig elections,
And train brutal corporate sponsored
Dictators around the world.

They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison, (for you and me to live in)
Another prison system,
Another prison system,
Another prison system. (for you and me to live in)
For you and I, for you and I , for you and I.
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
For you and me,
Oh baby, you and me.

BTW, im not claiming what he says is the absolute truth, im just saying he's setting a good example, by really getting people to question everything, and realize one thing we can all agree on, that this system and the minds under it need to change drastically. Making it harder and harder for people to 'look the other way' and pretend this shit isn't going on.
