What's your top 5 "spiritual" albums?
    #2027129 - 10/21/03 12:08 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I realize this could of been posted in the Music forum but there are people in this forum who I don't think frequent that forum. Plus, music and spirit go hand-in-hand, in my opinion.

Here are mine:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Peter Gabriel - Passion
Dead Can Dance - Spiritchaser (thx to Soundmind for recommending those last 2 )
Tool - Lateralus
John Frusciante - To Record Only Water For Ten Days

I don't have any logical explanations prepared for why I chose these albums. They are just what has touched my spirit the most intensely.

Other artists that do that to me are Robert Fripp, Philip Glass, & Bjork, off the top of my head. If anyone knows any good albums by either of these artists or of similar taste that is worth buying, let me know.

Sigur Ros - ( ): Because you can put whatever meaning you want to it, the band even invites you to write your own lyrics over the hopelandic they sing, which is just basically vocal music). The whole album is like one big dynamic song.... wonderful.

Bjork - Vespertine: This is the ultimate in winter albums heh. Or for me it seems that way anyways. There is nothing like walking around with this being pumped from your headphones, right after a fresh fluffy snow when it isnt deep but it makes everythign quiet, so that the cars that drive by almost seem to float. It makes the air so crystal clear that the clearness itself becomes a wonderful jeweled object to behold.

Mum - Finally We Are No One: Just wonderful electronic IDM lullaby. It isn't really IDM however, but the way it sounds, the magic and surreal coating everything had when you were a kid comes back, makes for great "fresh out of the dryer warm" trips.

Smashing Pumpkins - Adore: Just has a special place in me heart. The songs are quite beautiful. The lyrics can be pretty wonderful too. Classic beautiful Billy.

Radiohead - Kid A: What can I say, I love it. It has an abience and a beat, and what better way to end an album than with a song like Motion Picture Soundtrack. Thats a tear gusher it is so beautiful.

Tool's Lateralus has special meaning to me (among the thousands of interacting meanings in the music and lyrics themselves). My most intense and by far best trip was to that album, and I experienced true here and nowness.. I only could remember that.. something had happened, and I couldn't even remember what, but that it had brought about this change.. I had a few fleeting memories of my previous life, like I remembered picking up these objects and walking with them and sitting them down where these other people were sitting (hehe, washing dishes, taking the glasses up front by where the boss sits).

But yeah, that album, especially Reflection, Disposition, and Triad (I peaked to these songs, which is incredible in itself  ). The way every instrument goes out in every direction from each other to the sway of the bongoes, stops momentarily, and then everything pulls back into one beat, and then rests before repeating... it all unfolded before my very eyes, and I swayed with the movements in the song....

On a lesser trip I listened to The Wall, and that was great. Who here has heard of Delerium? Before they went pop? I will have to look into the name of the album, but it is so ambient and full of vibe...

And, without a doubt: Shpongle! Having Shpongle Falls experienced during a trip is insane... quite the world.

I imagine that John Frusciante's solo album is simply amazing, I am glad you mentioned it, I am now downloading it... He is quite the guitarist, to say the least.
Peace.

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

People think that if you just say the word "hallucinations" it explains everything you want it to explain and eventually whatever it is you can't explain will just go away. It's just a word,it doesn't explain anything...

sorry, I only have one "TOP"

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
In addition: SHPONGLE
