Drug induced mental disorders.

I was just wondering if any one had anything to say on the topic? Similar experiences? I had recently found my self in an extremely uncomfortable situation high on danks. There I was smoken down with my buds before we headed out to the bars. Like we have done many times before. I was pretty high and have been doing so for a few years now. The ordeal I was in is, I had become mute and just kinda faded into a zone of my own. I wasn?t able to carry a conversation, so I sat quiet and fidgeting like crazy. I was feeling like people were staring and talking about me. To make matters worse a group of guys started to talk between each other and came to the assumption I am gay (not true I love the poo tang). Nonetheless it was very uncomfortable and it wasn?t the first time. Actually it has been happening a lot lately when high and around peers and a social gathering. I have come to the conclusion I have smoked myself retarded. Really though I feel that I may have developed an anxiety disorder of a sort. Even when not high I have noticed that I am not my self. Since then i have cut back on the dope and have been meditating on it. I concluded via meditation I have defiantly lost allot of motivation and self-esteem. Go figure!

Take a break from marijuana... or at least marijuana combined with social situations.

I've had the same problems.

Smokeing give us a false comfort that high is better, this is not the case sometimes. Expect this to happen more and more as you start to focus on it. Like Adamist said: try smokeing on your own.

Yes, I have lived with that same exact problem, I was at a party with a bunch of people I didnt know, got really high and sat in the corner for most of the night with people asking me if I was alright every now and then, I noticed a girl looking at me and then talking to one of these guys I knew, she whispered something to the effect of " who's that weirdo in the corner?" not realizing that I could make out her converstation. Then I realized after looking at everyone in the room what total morons these poor druken assholes were, needless to say, Ive since become friends with people who are more open minded, enlightened you might say. But ever since that night I came to realize just how fake so many people are, and how pointless it is to try and act "normal" so I can blend in, Ive become disgusted with the fact that people instantly consider themselves better than anyone who isnt normal. My advice, dont stop what your doing, if you become enveloped in that same feeling and feel uncomfortable, tell your friends, tell them what your feeling, if they dont understand or come to grips with it then reevaluate your friendship with these people.

I don't know if weed can cause true mental disoreders other than paranoia. Some time earlier this year i was diagnosed with anxiety disorder though. My psychiatrist told me it could have been do in part to my use of psychedelics. I suppose it might be true. what do i care though, i just keep on trippin. Some people's third eye is better left closed.

Ya i know what ya mean...ive noticed ever since i started doing drugs more often..particulary psychedelics that ive changed a little bit...my confidence isnt quite the same when i get high now. im beginning to think that all that stuff that the adults always said is true...maybe drugs are really bad after all. i konw you gotta use them right but still. ive personaly seen many people beccome really messed up from using drugs. i konw that this is gonna get alota disagreements but i think that drugs are not that good in the long run...i think drugs are more powerful that what they are protrayed to be and if you just jump in to them their liable to kick your ass. but who knows...whats your guys opinions??

Other than my first experiences with marijuana, I've never taken any substance without first researching it's effects and contraindications. I've tried many things, but there are also many I will not try, I am also conservative in first time dosing. There are no 'bad' drugs, only bad (or foolish) uses of drugs.

This kinda thing started happening to me. I'd get way too uptight at a party or hanging out with a few friends if I got stoned and we were somewhere public. I cut back and now only smoke at a home, with a few friends, or even alone. Alone kinda sucks, so I started to listen to music and draw pictures. I draw some really neat pictures stoned. I only do that once in a while though.

This happens to almost everyone after they habitually smoke marijuana over a long period of time. All you need to do is lay off the weed for awhile, and try different things like alcohol, dxm, and stimulants. I usually rotate drugs, weed and painkillers for awhile, then alcohol and speed/stimulants. I stop stimulants when i start becoming addicted and i start up with the erb again. I will still smoke when im alone, but i find balancing your drugs helps counteract the negative effects.

Remy - might I make a quick suggestion? (note to self: that's a stupid phrase...stop using it)
I know it's really not all that big of a deal or anything, but would you mind changing your signature just a tad? You know - put it in color, add a pic, throw a line at the top, or something...cause it always just blends right in with the rest of your post, and that's kind of distracting...er...I don't think that's the right word for it...but you know what I mean, right?

i had the same problems. quit smoking immediately. stay off for at least a month. get it all out of your system. go out in public and relearn how to deal with the anxiety and make tons of them 'notes to self' like.....'ya those people are laughing, but since i'm sober i know it's not at me and if they really are, i really do care" teach yerself that, remember it, and then you can go back to hittin the pipe everyonce in awhile. it took me about 2 yrs to get over the paranoia of smoking in my backyard and at my apt. i trained my brain, but then the social shit started getting to me...same exact thing you described. all i had to do was slow down.

now i'm perfectly happy and can deal wid it!

Wow this is really interesting, I had/have the exact same problem.

I used to really enjoy the herb... But then all my trips really started to suck ass. I was paranoid (which wasnt really new) but worse, I was extremely negative about myself. Anything I said would seem really retarted to me, or any thoughts I had, while I used to think they were deep, now Id think they were fucking stupid stoner talk. And Id be extremely selft critical of myself in all aspects on life... Just really awful trips... So I stopped.. That was more than a year ago.

The only time Ill smoke now is in a place where I dont have time to think. So basically, when I go camping... If my mind is running off and bothering me, I can just go run around in the bush...

I have got the excact same prob.
Sometimes it fades away and other times it runs strong. Anxiety, uncomfortable in situations i should be comfortable in etc. Only started to happen to me honestly after i took E and MG. I find that less thought, even when with non friends is needed. Peace of mind and put everything behind not infront helps alot. Just getting over my paranoia prob.

I have extreme anxiety, dont believe in medication though. i just recently stopped smoking cause i couldnt stand having nothing to say on my trips. the first 30 minutes would be all good but after that i felt like a loner. might try it alone again sometime cause i get these strange revelations, although they probably arent real i like those intense bursts of energy or sudden realizations.

Wow, I'm amazed at all the responses in this thread. I've been going through this for years. I used to LOVE the herb. I smoked everyday for about three years, and up until the last year I loved every minute of it. After that, extreme paranoia set in. Everything and everyone around me became a massive conspiracy against me, and there was nothing I could do to escape it. It was completely overwhelming. Even after the paranoia set in I continued to chronically smoke pot for another year, until one incident where the paranoia got so bad that I seriously contemplated suicide (at the time I had very recently lost a good friend in a car accident, just about watched him die before my eyes. I'm sure this had a lot to do with it). Nowadays I only smoke once in a while. The paranoia's still there, but far more manageable. With marijuana, set and setting are far more important to me than with psychedelics. I've tried to find the source of this paranoia, and the only thing I came up with was that the pot was dramatically intensifying feelings I have when sober, since I tend to be rather socially awkward and am always questioning the motivations of others. I'm rambling here, so....anyways, lay of the heavy pot use, it'll only cloud your judgement in the long run.

I'm not sure I understand where you stand. Here you say:

Fear and happiness cannot co-exist at the same time.

From my observations, personal and otherwise, the paranoia felt has nothing to do with mood or events or outlook on life, but is a direct negative side-effect of the drug (for some people).

i think fear and happiness can exist at the same time, when you are involved in an experience that you feel you are out of your depth in, you can be scared of fucking up at the same time that your lovin every minute of it....
