Electric PC vs Stove PC
    #11115218 -

I don't have a stove so my only choice is the electric PC, but is it as good as the one on the stove? I heard about the electric PC has a minimal of 5psi to a maximum of 15psi, if I'm unlucky to get the one with 5psi, will it work as good for sterilization? How high will the temperature get?

This is the one I'm planning to get, but it doesn't specify the psi but the power consumption is 1200W, is that pretty high?

Thanks.

Get the one that does 15 psi.

that would be like running 12 100 watt lightbulbs. Electric power is really really expensive, at least compared to gas for cooking.

Another alternative is to go and get a 1 burner counter top range (it's pretty much an overgrown hotplate). They run like 30$ and should get plenty hot enough for a PC. Careful though, you might need to create some sort of brace to keep your PC from falling off if its a biggun.

Run it like it was a 10 PSI unit to be safe. You'll have to run it longer than a 15 psi, but it'll work.

What do you mean? If it's 12psi why should I run it lower?
I think this PC only runs at 12psi, if that's the case, how long should I run it?

There are time specifications for running a PC at both 10 and 15 PSI. The higher the PSI, the higher the temperature. The higher the temperature, the less time required to cook for sterilization.

What I meant was, cook your jars as long as you should for 10PSI. if you only do it as long as 15 PSI would, it may not be sterile enough.

I'm not sure what the time is for cooking at 10 PSI. If I did, I would tell you. In that case, you'll have to resort to using the search function or waiting for someone who knows off the top of their head to sound off.
