Lets Talk Thermodynamics

2nd law of thermodynamics = Everything is going toward entropy

however LIFE seems to go against this "LAW"

Or does it?  when we eat things like an apple which was made through specific systems of the tree, we break them down which in entropic, but then we take the metabolites and incorporate them into our body's system, which would be anti-entropic.  So is there a net gain or loss here or is it equal?  Is life really anti entropic or does it just slow entropy down?

Remember, it only applies to a closed system and within a closed system it always increases over time.

Also, life only slows down this increase temporarily.  An analogy would be like filling a reservoir.  When a river starts to fill a reservoir its flow rate slows down, but once the reservoir is filled its rate goes back to full force.  This same thing happens with entropy - life builds up a reservoir of order, but once full then order proceeds to disorder at the same rate as though life wasn't here at all.

Life sustains itself by exporting entropy.  It must continue consuming low entropy food and excreting high entropy waste.  Erwin Schrödinger once described this process as "negentropy."  Theoretically, this process could continue indefinitely so long as there is still low entropy food to use.

Life draws exergy from the entropic process of nuclear fusion from the sun. Life concentrates order, but the overall system is moving towards lower exergy.
