Knot to Pin ratio

My tub formed thousands of little knots, literally covering the entire substrate. However, there seems to be very few of them actually resulting in pins.  Any reasons? Normal?

yes normal, knots often form that stay dorment until the next flushes

Oh really? Pardon the technicalities but do subs only use previously formed knots or do they use a mixture of older/new knots?

If your entire substrate is already covered in hyphal knots, where are the new ones going to form?
I think you did everything correct. A substrate entirely and evenly covered in hyphal knots is exactly what you want.

As said, primordia for future flushes are often set at the time of first flush, and then they sit dormant until their time comes.

Appreciate the responses everyone. I've read that the initial pinset affects later flushes but hadn't really gotten the specifics on it.

I didn't notice all the knotting on my first grow. Literally, the only difference between the two was that I used coir husk for the first grow and coir fiber for the second.  Got great results from the first, just didn't notice all the knotting that i've seen this time around. :shrug:

your sub can only support so many mushies at a time so the others will come after you harvest the first.  hence the term flushes. 

and if you have tons of knots then your doing good:headbang3:
