Some Central Texas Finds
    #11060281 -

Sup guys, new member here though Ive been lurking the forums for awhile now just picking up some knowledge here n there. Decided to try and do some amatuer hunting as its been something Ive been wanting to try it for awhile. Went out to a local pasture this last weekend here in central texas after we had gotten some rain for about a week. Before that we had been ina bad drought so thats why I didnt try earlier. All the samples were all found growing from dung, although I did most of the hunting near a creek where there was a good amount trees so there was more shade than direct sunlight. Temps had been around 80 to 100F. Some of the pics are a bit blurry and my vocabualry isnt up to par yet but I'll try my best

Sample 1:

The biggest one I found, the cap is around 3inches and about 5 inches tall including stem. Solid off-white brownish color all throughout. Gills are free and broad atleast IMO, very dark brown to black. Found 2 that seem to be the same species but were growing individually on different mounds although in the same general area. Spore print was dark black and no bruising anywhere.

Sample 2:

These caps were about 1 inch across. Very light on the edges of the caps to medium brown in the middle. Center dark brown almost reddish with a bit of a broad point. Had some bruising on the stems. Gills were dark and close. Sporeprint came out light to dark purple.

Sample 3:

These were short and stocky only about 2inches tall and maybe 2.5inch cap. Cap was almost saucer shaped with the gills sticking down further than the cap. After removing the stem the cap looks very spongy inside. Does not smell too good. No bruising. Couldnt really get a good spore print from it but it looks like a dark brown.

Sample 4:

Found these most commonly. Pretty small at about 0.5inch caps. Light grayish color with alot of bruising all over. Some were very bell shaped others were almost hemispherical. Long skinny stems with a goldenish brown color. Very dark black spore prints.

Sample 5:

Either its a buttom mushroom or I just plucked it too early. Its the only one I found like this so its why I took it. Found the little guy by himself in the sunnier area.

Sample 6:

Another Loner. White all around. Little less than 2inch cap. Couldnt get a good sporeprint from it.

Didnt get a chance to get a spore print or good discriptions of these other finds but maybe someone has some kinda clue just from the pics.

Sample7:

Sample 8:

Sample #2 looks like Psilocybe cubensis.

Sample #4 the second two pics look like Panaeolus cyanescens to me but the first pic of sample #4 looks like a different species?

Wait for a Trusted Identifier to confirm my guesses as I'm not an expert, but you definitely got some actives though.

Good Job

I think its because with the first pic on sample 4 I used a different light source so the color looks a bit different but its all the same group.

Thanks for the help guys! Keep it comin!

1 may be Panaeolus semiovatus, it's white and it's one of the larger Panaeolus species.

2 is indeed Psilocybe cubensis.

3 looks to be some species of agaricus

4 is indeed Panaeolus [Copelandia] canescens.

5 may be another Agaricus.

8 looks to be an Agaricus as well.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
