Does anyone else here intend to never marry or have kids, and live alone peacefully?
    #11056843 -

Or am I the only one? I've thought about it lately and life would seem much easier if I spent it on my own. I'd have vast quantities of cash that won't get wasted on a spouse or money-vacuuming mediocre children. Truth is, I prefer being alone and enjoy being by myself. I'm introverted and like doing things on my own.

I don't want to have kids and spend 20 years on a commitment raising them, and a lifetime of giving guidance after that.

I don't want to get married only to be divorced after and lose half of my stuff in a sexless and joyless marriage that slowly deteriorates after a decade or two.

Anyone else agree, or at least think of it?

I'll probably end up married, but kids are a big negative. I've got shitty genes, health wise, and I wouldn't want my kids to have to deal with that. Plus kids are expensive, very demanding, and can be annoying as hell. I've got a short temper with kids that throw temper tantrums, so I'd probably be a shitty father anyway.

A dog will work just fine for me.

Edit: I just re-read your post. Sounds like you have a pretty bleak outlook on marriage. Just don't marry the wrong person. My parents are perfectly happy and they've been together 30 years.

Well I have a bleak outlook on many things, but I'm sure marriage works for lots of people. My parents are happily married, and my brother and sister-in-law are happily married together with 3 kids. I'm just certain it's not for me.

If I never have kids I will be extremely disappointed.

To be honest, I see little reason outside of marriage and having kids to be alive. I do not believe in God or the afterlife and I feel I can get married, have kids and still live the life I want too. I came from a great family though and know that its such a great decision.

My Mom would kill me I didn't give her some grandchildren

It's how I live, and if you can rationally deal with the fact you are going against your natural instinct to procreate... It's an awesome lifestyle.

I have extra money, I'm mostly stress free and I do whatever I want, anytime I want for the most part... My only real responsibilities are 20 hours of work a week at a cushy office job and taking care of my dear old dad, which is pretty easy.

I smoke tons of weed, drink expensive beer, eat fine food and take alot of weekend naps... I think people who marry and have kids are fucking crazy, but I understand the "need" to do it.

Some of us are just more evolved I suppose. :smirk:

Well that's kinda counter productive if you're not going to reproduce

Planning for the future is like trying to change the past.

All you can do it guess and make assumptions, but the "you" being described now will not be the same you later on.

I found other ways to help my parents... I find this reason is one of the more popular that I hear, and the most silly reason to have a child.

I compare people who "need" children to animals I see humping in the forest. This is the greatest time in all of history to be alive (as far as I can tell) and I plan on enjoying every second of my hopefully 70+ years.

Everyone I know with children changes... ages... gives up part of themselves to further their species... I see, and feel, no reason to be a part of all that hard work.

I'm over here, hanging on the corner Easy Street and Relaxation Blvd... just get a fucking education first, so you don't live on Welfare or some shit. I earn my salary and $50/hour freelance pay. :yesnod:

Freedom > everything.

Some of us are meant to live... others can mate.

We're doomed in any event since the dumb are reproducing faster than the smart... It's just a matter of time.

I don't want to relax my whole life, that will have been a life much wasted to me. I want to have children because I know how much my Mother loves me. The love she has for me surpasses anything I will ever feel on this earth. She helps me out till no end and although her life is not the best, I know I give her a very strong reason to always move forward. My brother and me mean a lot to her and she always shows it.

Having your own opinions are fine, but don't knock others for theirs. If you want to get high for the rest of your life, suit yourself. People usually look down upon those people for good reason. I want to work throughout my life and produce things. I want to create children that can carry on my name and I want to create art that will succeed even them. If you do not want to be part of hard work, then why are you complaining? You apparently don't do much as it is. 20 hours of work a week? How old are you man?

I've been enticed by love my entire life, its a greater high than any drug. I see no reason not to take that love one step further and share something with them that is eternal. There are many trips in this world, I cannot even imagine how intense it would be to bring a child that has half of your genes into the world.

Have fun smoking weed and drinking beers, I'm determined to make something out of this life.

That sounded pretty condescending.

To each their own man, don't be hatin.

It's an illusion, and everything you create will be gone. All the while, those creations require work, increasing and increasing amounts. Less time for you.

I find enjoyment in... simple enjoyment.

Don't you see the drive you have is just vestigial? It's fine... And I don't put anyone down. I simply like to live stress free.

I'm 35, and I take zero medication. I sleep well, and I am flexible enough to plam the floor. These things may seem trivial... but they are markers of the lack of stress in my life.

Stress kills, and death is my enemy. Too much to enjoy and too little time.

I'm sorry you see that decision as "wasted"... But only time will tell.

Oh life is but a dream, I understand this well. I simply know which ending I would like to have. I don't care much about the profession I choose, but I've always wanted a family. I've been in love with girls since a young age and although it may have done more harm than good at times, I would not have it any other way. I already know far too much about myself, being alone my entire life would cause me to go insane.

I think I'll have kids one day. Like when I'm 30-35.

I don't want to be a lazy drugged out stoner for my whole entire life. I imagine my lifestyle will change some day.

Who says I'm alone?

I have several people in my life, some close some not... The major difference is NONE of them can nag me, hold power over me, take my money or otherwise interfere with my life.

The only drawback to my lifestlye is not having a child... but like I said, that "need" is an instinct and it can be overcome if life is good enough. I don't need kids to work the land, appease my parents, etc.

Whatever works for you man... Just pay your fair share and keep your fucking kids off my lawn, and I'm fine. :smirk:
