Statistics

Anyone here ever use gapminder

A completely open ended tool, loaded with data from almost every source you can think of. Even dr00g info.

Anyway, next time you hear some crazy statistic, you can use gapminder to prove it out with mathematical accuracy.

Statistics are useful to demonstrate a relationship with apparent accuracy but without the requirement to actually understand what's going on. Its inherent mathematical smokescreens make statistics extremely prone to misuse for pseudo-scientific statements. In fact, statistics may just turn out to be the least scientific of the tools in our academic toolbox.

Which is why Economists have combined the "quasi-science" of economic theory and paired it with statistical analysis, to generate econometrics -- which is currently making me want to :suicide:

Basically, there's nothing wrong with stats themselves, it's the misuse and misinterpretation that does the harm. That, and they're grossly overrated, I think.

Thats why I posted my "discovery"!!
If you hear some bullshit that doesnt sound right, see if you can disprove it with gapminder, and maybe a video of the shitty news troll trying to mislead us, post it here.

I agree with you till the last part.  Statistics are extremely scientific, human interpretation and confirmation bias is not.
