Western Pennsylvania. is it worth my time?
    #11006249 -

i enjoy finding boletes and some nice mushrooms to go with my eggs-but the only thing that got me interested in mushrooms at all is psilocybin.

i have been looking for maybe 1 or two months, and haven't found any active mushrooms. of course, maybe because i have yet to change areas. I always look in the forest behind my house, a mile or two long. im thinking about riding my bike to places and searching, but what chance do i have of finding any actives? i live in new castle, about an hour away from pittsburgh.

Yes, it is worth your time.  No, you won't find them soon.  But you will find them.

If you do the math and calculate the milligrams of psilocybin per hour, your time would best be spent growing Psilocybe cubensis.

I'm also in Western PA and everything Alan just posted is absolutely correct. You can find a lot of Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata , but that is in the spring. Psilocybe caerulipes are found in late summer or fall. I've never found one so I'm not much help there. I've found gymnopilus spectabilis in the fall before, but like Alan said, if you want psilocybin you should cultivate. You should follow this "Tek" in order to bring this species to our area (Most likely not possible, but I'm going to attempt to colonize all my near by streams with wood chips) You can collect Panaeolus cinctulus, but I've never even looked for any, so once again, I'm no help. It's supposed to rain Monday, so after that is your best bet, we've had a dry week. I'm about 13 Minutes away from you, if that.
