Grated Potato added to Bulk sub? -- Colonized, *pics*

Small scale experiment. Knowing it is useful for other culture work.

Any say no way, waste of time?

BULK SUB
Straw,
Coffee Grinds,
Potato
Gypsum
peat for texture.

99% Colonized.  Waiting a couple more days to fruit!

Finally, the transfer works!

Potato shreds, rolled in Gypsum and Oven dryed:


Mixed with the usualls, straw, cow poo, coffee grounds and peat for extra water retention(maybe??). 


11 days!

uh... I don't know. You're adding raw shredded potato before pasteurizing? How much?

mushy sub will colonize much slower. if you pasteurize the potato it will cook and become mushy. you dont want that.

you could boil potatos and use the broth instead of plain water?

nutritional water. some people use a solution of brewed coffee for cakes.

cubes seem to like a diverse diet. as do i.

i havent tried any of these but it seems like its worth a go at it.

Let us know how it goes.  I tend to suspect the potato would increase the chances of contamination.

I thought so at first, but then I can't recall ever seeing a moldy potato. :shrug: Maybe we're all missing out on something good.

I can say potato's will mold and when they go bad  well its very gross

Yeah, I would definetly be afraid that the potato would rot in the mix bring mold and other nasty contams with it. If you do decided to try it, I would only experiment with one or two jars, don't risk them all.

well what if u cut the potato in half or quarters and let them dry out  and then puled them over a grater and mix the shavings in Ur substrate. that mite work, the mycelium should grow fast enough to colonize it so contamination dosent happen.. like RR said give it a shot and let us know, could be a ground shaking discovery  :jiggly:

Cool. 

I've got one grain jar left, I like to keep one in the pocket. 

I'll dry out the potato in thin slices a bit, shred, then pasteurize.

Yeah have you considered potato flakes rather than fresh potato? I use potato flakes for food in my agar.

Yeah, instant potato flakes dissolved into the water. Then you get all the nutrition without having big chunks of potato.

I'd still try it on a small scale first.
