bulk need help what to do ?
    #1395770 - 03/20/03 05:05 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

My friend has a bulk substrate going on right now. He put a layer of verm on the bottom for drainige, extra moisture, you know just to help it. Then hae added a layer of comost 65% compost 35% perlite. Then added some colinized WBS mixed a little, then added another layer of the compost mixture, and finally added a layer of just colinized WBS on the top like iceing on a cake. Now the top is like completly colinized but the rest is about 50% colinized. Should he wait to induce fruiting until all of the compost is colinized? Or should he just make sure the surface is colinized and induce fruiting? And another thing should he case it when he does decide to fruit it or should he get a flush out then case? Please help him out.

*My* friend uses verm to mix with his worm castings. His newbie ass used straight castings/poo and ended up with a soggy, bacterial infested mess.

My friend would wait until it is 100% colonized before inducing pinning. If you haven't gotten cobweb or trich by now, you are probably golden!

My friend wishes your friend the best of luck

Is your friend's container opaque or translucent?
*My* friend opened his containers too early and too often and got screwed a few before he learned to be patient. He recommends wrapping a clear container with tin foil or a trash bag (i.e. make it opaque, but so that you can see through it if you need to). If the substrate surface is colonized, your friend has a better chance of fighting contamination. My friend says to case that shit -- just be careful if your substrate is real moist and humid -- try to cut back on the moisture content of the casing so you don't invite cobweb. He has noticed that with a barely moist casing layer that it will still colonize, and he can always mist it once he starts fruiting to bring the moisture content up to the optimum before cropping.
