Pre Ordering College Books

My college has an online application that lets you see what books are required for your courses. This is a real help because you can have your books before classes begin and don't have to worry about when they will arrive. However, I have never pre-ordered books this way and have always asked the teachers what exactly we needed on the first day, I am skeptical of the applications accuracy and weather or not some books will actually be used. I'm very nervous about purchasing the wrong book or a book I didn't really need. Has anyone had a negative experience by pre-ordering a book though a program like this? Make me feel better about ordering these. :frown:

I always wait until the first day of class and then order the books.

Sucks if you need your book right away, but at least you don't get something you don't need. And you save a ton of money

I preordered one time and I ended up with 3 separate history books all of which the instructor decided we didn't need to read, because he would be supplying us with the PDF to the history book he had written. :nonono: never again

i always pre order my books, that way i don't have to wait in line.  All i do is walk up to the room and tell them my name, they get my box of books and i leave.  At my school the professor tells the bookstore what books they plan on using for the semester, yes some times the professor does not even use them really, but at least i have all the books if needed and the line is always really long at the bookstore the first couple weeks of class from people waiting to get the book and you run the risk of them selling out so you have to wait even longer to get them.  Also by pre ordering you can get more used books which will save you some $$.  IMO i would pre order your books.  hope this helped some..

Pre-ordering lets you get them cheaper. Sometimes, the professor says you don't need them the first day of class, or you can buy them later in the course, so it is really is a gamble.

You could always email your professor to make sure you "pick up the correct edition". Sometimes they will even tell you it's possible get an older edition, which is even cheaper :smile:

Just get the ISBN-13 number, you can't be wrong. I always order my books early online and save a shit ton. Last semester I actually made money off buying them so low and re selling them after the semester was over for a profit.

I think I'm just going to order the books I know I'm going to need (computer science books) and just buy/order the rest when I get to school.

www.DealOz.com ; It will find the cheapest book on the internet - forget your schools ripoff pre-ordering bullshit.

If you are worried whether your professors will be requiring the book then ask them.
