Windows 7 Upgrade
    #10923293 -

They are going to sell upgrades way cheaper then the whole OS. Im running RC now and I was wondering if I can upgrade from RC or do I have to upgrade from win XP?

Im guessing it will be a bitch to crack so I will have to probably but it... ugh..

Are there even any vista cracks yet?

On a seperate topic. When downloading movies...
I cant seem any to be 5.1 only 2.0. Is this typical of torrents?

It seems like the standard is MPEG Audio 2.0.

Also on my video size they are all different. Does this mean people dont know what they are doing when encoding? Does it make a difference?

They have been "beta-testing" Windows 7 for some time now.  You can actually download the entire thing for free.  It is very close to the retail version and (I think) is actually dubbed a "release candidate".

The release candidate is fully functional, except that it "expires" in a year or so.

It has been "cracked" so that it never expires.

Im using RC. Supposedly it will start to shutdown after a period of time every 2 hours. How could they have cracked this and know its working if no ones RC has began to shut down.

Not to mention future updates will probably not work with a cracked version.

Alright. Thats what I wanted to know. I thought you might only be able to upgrade from win xp or vista.

Weird how they let you do that. Who in their right mind would pay for the full version when you can get RC for free and update disc cheap.

Hopefully hey have fixed a few bugs by then

I never knew how much I would use hibernate until I got a media PC

You only get the cheap upgrade if you previously had a Vista license.

That's not what he's asking.

He's asking if he can get the discount upgrade. He will be able to upgrade from the RC but will have to pay the full  price for a new Windows 7 license.

Not the discount upgrade he would get from previously having a Vista license.

http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2009/07/a_major_windows_7_upgrade_question_gets_an_an.html

Quote:
If you are running the Windows 7 Release Candidate, and you have activated it, you will not need to reinstall an older version of Windows before using an Windows 7 upgrade disk.

However, you will not be able to do an upgrade installation, in which your existing programs and data are left in place. Instead, you'll have to do what Microsoft calls a custom installation. This is essentially a clean install, but your existing operating system, programs and data are squirreled away in a folder labeled WINDOWS.OLD. You end up with a fresh Windows 7 setup, but you can access that folder to get to any needed data. (Sorry, the programs in there won't work - you'll need to reinstall them.)

HOWEVER

Quote:
But there's a catch. If for some reason you later need to reinstall the finished version of Windows 7 from scratch using the upgrade copy you bought, you'll first need to install and activate Windows XP or Vista.

So yes, you can use an upgrade disc!

I still have the feeling that M$ will have some way to get the extra money out of the RC upgrades, though.

Actually, Windows 7 RTM (Release to Manufacturing) is officially out already.
It is the exact final version, but only available for download by the Technet and MSDN subscribers (basically Microsoft partners).
I'm sure it is easily downloadable on your favorite p2p network.

I don't know if it's been cracked yet but I would guess that it is - crackers are usually quite reactive!

the things with cracking MS operating systems now a days is that you cant install updates without it knowing its cracked.

That's a bit of an overkill.

Plus not sure it would work as the client OS would still complain they are cracked after the updates are installed.
