In Exodus Chapter 30 verses 22- 25, the Lord commanded Moses to make a holy anointing oil from myrrh, cinnamon , sweet smelling cane(kaneh bosem), cassia and olive oil. This would have been a powerful antiviral and antibiotic oil, the use of which would give protection and treatment to those to whom it was administered. Myrrh is an effective antiseptic and cicatrisan (wound healer).

It has tremendous healing effects on sores, ulcers and boils . Cinnamon is a powerful antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial agent.

Cannabis has been used as a medicine for over 4000 years.

Olive Oil, Homer called it "liquid gold." In ancient Greece, athletes ritually rubbed it all over their body. Olive oil has been more than mere food to the peoples of the Mediterranean: it has been medicinal, magical, an endless source of fascination and wonder and the fountain of great wealth and power.
Besides food, olive oil has been used for religious rituals, medicines, as a fuel in oil lamps, soap-making, and skin care application.

Another use of oil in Jewish religion is for anointing the kings of the Kingdom of Israel, originating from King David. Tzidkiyahu was the last anointed King of Israel. One unusual use of olive oil in the Talmud is for bad breath, by creating a water-oil-salt mouthwash.

Olive oil also has religious symbolism for healing and strength and to consecration — God's setting a person or place apart for special work. This may be related to its ancient use as a medicinal agent and for cleansing athletes by slathering them in oil then scraping them. The Catholic and Orthodox Churches use olive oil for the Oil of Catechumens (used to bless and strengthen those preparing for Baptism) and Oil of the Sick (used to confer the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick). Olive oil mixed with a perfuming agent like balsam is consecrated by bishops as Sacred Chrism, which is used to confer the sacrament of Confirmation (as a symbol of the strengthening of the Holy Spirit), in the rites of Baptism and the ordination of priests and bishops, in the consecration of altars and churches, and, traditionally, in the anointing of monarchs at their coronation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) and a number of other religions use olive oil when they need to consecrate an oil for anointings.

Calamus vs. Cannabis
Calamus
Scientific Name: Acorus calamus
Country of Origin: Nepal
Distillation Method: Steam Distilled
Safety: F, H (Toxic, Carcinogenic) When used as a fragrance ingredient it should not exceed .01% of the total finished product.
Quality Control Tested: Yes
Free of Pesticide and Chemical Residue: Yes

One of the supposed ingredients in the holy anointing oil. It is also called "sweet flag" or "sweet cane". Used in cosmetics and perfumes as a fixative. Some also believe that Calamus could be what is now known as lemongrass or ginger grass.

Therapeutic Uses: None. Calamus oil should only be used as a perfume ingredient. Calamus oil is toxic. Ancient herbal remedies used only the dried root of the plant not the concentrated essential oil from the plant.

Cannabis has been used for medicinal purposes for approximately 4,000 years. Surviving texts from ancient India confirm that its psychoactive properties were recognized, and doctors used it for a variety of illnesses and ailments. These included a whole host of gastrointestinal disorders, insomnia, headaches and as a pain reliever, frequently used in childbirth. The ancient Egyptians even used hemp (cannabis) in suppositories for relieving the pain of hemorrhoids.[10]
In the medieval Islamic world, Arabic physicians discovered the diuretic, antiemetic, antiepileptic, anti-inflammatory, pain killing and antipyretic properties of cannabis sativa, and used it extensively as medication from the 8th to 18th centuries.[11] An Irish doctor, William O'Shaughnessy, was held mainly responsible for showing his Western colleagues about the healing properties of marijuana. He was a herb professor at the Medical College of Calcutta, and in conducted a marijuana experiment in the 1830s. O'Shaughnessy created preparations and tested animal effects. He continued on to administer this marijuana to patients in order to help treat muscle spasms or pain.[12]
Cannabis as a medicine became common throughout much of the world by the 19th century. It was used as the primary pain reliever until the invention of aspirin.[9] Modern medical and scientific inquiry began with doctors like O'Shaughnessy and Moreau de Tours, who used it to treat melancholia and migraines, and as a sleeping aid, analgesic and anticonvulsant.

If you actually buy the Calamus translation for the Holy Oil, then you assume that God specified in Exodus 30:23 a drug commonly known as Ecstasy. Calamus contains an ingredient called asarone. This is a hallucinogen which is metabolized in the liver as trimethoxyamphetamine or ecstasy. The Middle Eastern version of this plant is far more toxic than its North American Cousin. This is deadly to flies and other insects. The Exodus 30:23 reference refers to sweet Calamus. If you look at this in the Strong's concordance where they spell this as qaneh rather than kaneh, they pronounce this as Kaw-Naw, a reed, calamus, and cane are listed as possible translations. The term sweet used in Exodus 30:23 in Hebrew is Bosem. According to the Webster's New World Hebrew Dictionary, Bosem is perfume; scent. The Concordance: the Hebrew is Bosem 1314, fragrance, by impl. spicery; also the balsam plant:----smell, spice, sweet (odour). In some Bibles sweet calamus is translated as aromatic or fragrant Cane. It is where the bosem is fused to the word kaneh or qaneh that the cannabis translation becomes apparent. So then to pronounce this we have kaw-naw-bosem, and is spelled in English qaneh-bosem or kaneh-bosem.

In 1936, Sara Benetowa, later Known as Sula Benet, an etymologist from the Institute of Anthropological Sciences, in Warsaw wrote a treatise, "Tracing One Word Through Different Languages." This was a study on the word Cannabis, based on a study of the oldest Hebrew texts. Although the word cannabis was thought to be of Scythian origin, Benet's research showed it had an earlier root in the Semitic Languages such as Hebrew. Benet demonstrated that the ancient Hebrew word for Cannabis is Kaneh -Bosem. She also did another study called Early Diffusion and Folk Uses of Hemp. There is a reprint of this in Cannabis and Culture ISBN:90-279-7669-4. On page 44, she states, "The sacred character of hemp in biblical times is evident from Exodus 30:23, where Moses was instructed by God to anoint the meeting tent and all of its furnishings with specially prepared oil, containing hemp." On page 41 Sula Benet writes, : In the course of time, the two words kaneh and bosem were fused into one , kanabos or kannabus know to us from the Mishna. According to the Webster's New World Hebrew Dictionary, page 607 the Hebrew for hemp is kanabos.

Sara Benetowa discovered that the Kaneh-Bosm or Cannabis is mentioned 5 times in the Old Testament. The first occurrence appears in the Holy Anointing Oil as Calamus, (Exodus 30:23). Sara argued that the translation of Calamus was a mistranslation which occurred in the oldest Bible the "Septuagint" and the mistranslation was copied in later versions.

But what is the effect to the baptism?
You may argue that the Anointing with the cannabis based oil has no redeeming value. I would like to point out that all Orthodox Churches practice the Chrism anointing. What started me into The Fire Baptism and the Lost Sacraments is that not one Church uses the Holy Anointing Oil as described in Exodus 30:23 even with the Calamus translation.

something else to consider

FACT: If a person creates an Anointing Oil or Temple Incense based solely on the words in the Holy Bible, the end result would NOT be the true, actual, genuine Pure and Holy Bible Anointing Oil or Holy Temple Incense.
WHY: One must remember that the High Priest, Pharisee's and Sadducee's had a religious mandate to protect the people. One of the ways they did this was to setup hidden walls and hedges to protect the people from their own ignorance of the LAW.
HOW: In the case of the Holy Anointing Oil and Holy Temple Incense, names of ingredients had code names, some ingredients were not listed at all, and the processes were all kept secret (and there was a further mistranslation later on as well).
EXPLAIN: The High Priest, Pharisee's and Sadducee's did this so if an unauthorized person made the Anointing Oil or Temple Incense they would not have really sinned, so they would not have to be put to death or punished greatly. That is because they DID NOT make the true, actual, and Genuine HOLY item. The secret hidden walls and hedges protected the person from himself and the LAW.

Are we allowed to make or use the Holy Anointing Oil today? Each individual is accountable to God and this is ultimately a question each person will need to take to the Lord in prayer.

The Holy Anointing Oil in the Old Testament was created by God to anoint only the High Priests, the tabernacle and the items in the tabernacle so that they could minister unto God on behalf of the people. However, this was during the times of the Old Testament covenant. We are no longer under the Old Testament covenant because Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

Once we are saved, it, our inheritance is to be adopted into the Royal Priesthood. We no longer have to offer animal sacrifices, etc. in order to present our petitions before the Lord as they did in the Old Testament days. Jesus was our sacrifice and shed His blood to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Holiness and purity can only be obtained by having a intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and allowing His Word to cleanse our heart, soul and mind continually. He alone is our atoning sacrifice. Keep in mind the word intimate relationship or to "know" Jesus Christ is the key to the narrow path that leads to eternal life in heaven. Not all that profess to be Christian will be accepted as stated in Mathew 7:21-29.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. KJV

John 1:17
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

If you would like to make the HAO using the mistranslated recipe here's a link for a kit... let us know if the calamus makes you trip or ultimately gives you cancer... we wanna know. http://www.victorie-inc.us/holy_oil_kit.html

Is it possible that were two different recipe's and for two entirely separate reasons? one for general purpose anointing oil or perfume (kaneh bosm recipe), and one for consecration and sanctification purposes (calamus recipe) ?

I actually heard that the amount of cannabis used traditionally was staggering. It required ALOT of cannabis in a little bit of oil to be psychoactive. I think it was like five pounds of weed for every gallon or two of oil! This would be the potency needed to be psychoactive on skin contact! Annoint your head with that oil and you'll be buzzing on up to the heavens.

Personally, I believe "sweet calamus," to translate to more of a holy anointing component than mere cannabis. Found in swampy areas, Acorus calamus contains beta asarones, TMA,  - precursor to mescaline. Transdermally absorbed, a load of TMA is is more likely to "occasion" the vision of "the glory of the LORD" more than Moses and Aaron getting a case of the munchies, and eating the holy shewbread in the holy of holies.

Eliezier Ben Yehudah defined the Hebrew word Kaneh-bosm as cannabis sativa more than thirty years ago.

I wasn't there. I prefer to think of the holy anointing oil as a major psychedelic, not a minor one. Then again, I am not convinced of the actual historicity of biblical material in the first place. Lots of people still believe that a man named Moses (Mose in Egyptian, as in Thutmose), wrote the 'Five Books of Moses,' i.e., the Torah. How is it that the writer of Exodus was able to write about the death of Moses? The theophanies as described in Exodus certainly do partake of a mescaline, external hallucinatory ("true hallucinations" in McKenna's term - visionary experience) phenomenology. I don't care how cannabis-intoxicated one is - pillars of smoke and fire, parting of the sea, water issuing forth on command from rocks, staff turning into serpents, etc., does not belong to mere cannabis intoxication.

Hey, according to J.S. Spong, the whole virgin birth mythos is an error that resulted from translating the Hebrew OT into Greek. Hebrew has two words for virgin and young woman while Greek had only one word - parthenos - which meant both. The original book of Isaiah says that 'a young woman' shall conceive the Messiah in Bethlehem. NT writers ran with that to create the Jesus character as Messiah, and the only word they could use meant young woman AND virgin. Plus, Hellenistic myth always had mortal woman being impregnated by gods. So the whole Christian virgin birth mythos, and the Catholic value for virginity, plus millennia of monastic life are ALL the product of one mistranslated word!

"Go figure."
