Over a week and still no signs of growth - Bad spores?

I knocked up my jars just over a week ago and made some LC a little before that.  The LC got contams, so I couldn't tell if any myc was growing or not.  None of my jars are showing any growth thus far and I'm worried the spores might have been damaged by the heat.  They sat in my mailbox for a couple hours in 100+ degree heat because I was out of town and had to wait for a friend to pick them up for me.  So, what are the chances the spores were damaged and should I keep waiting, get more spores, or use what I have left and try again with these syringes?

yup 100*= No good from what I have been reading. And in your LC what did the contamination look like? Or was there just no growth

Dude, I live in the Sonoran desert.  I've learned the hard way to only have stuff shipped to me in the fall/winter months.  100+ degrees = d. e. d. dead.

You can tell you live in an area that is not naturally conducive to mycelial growth, when you keep a pair of oven mitts in your truck to drive with...

Toss 'em and try again. :imo:

Well, there was some white fluffy stuff growing in te bottom, but I could still see the spores, so I think it was a contam.  There was also some green slimy stuff at the top of the jar

you probably shouldnt have inoculated the other jars.
i have a feeling the only growth your getting is gonna be some mold.

If its only been a week, give it another week or so.  I've seen spores take almost 3 weeks before seeing signs of myc.  Since you live in the desert, im sure incubation isn't an issue, but it's worth mentioning.  Incubating can really speed up colonization times, though it's rarely necessary.

As far as the heat is concerned, I wouldn't worry overly much about it.  If it was packaged properly, hopefully they'll be ok.  Were they syringes particularly hot when you removed them from the packaging?

How did you know your LC was contaminated?  Most contaminated LCs show absolutely no sign of the fact - you don't know until you inoculate and some funky mold explodes all over your substrate.

I don't live in the desert, actually a very warm, humid climate.  And I didn't knock up my jars with the LC.  I made that just for fun.  I used the spore syringes on the jars and was very careful about sanitation.
